I bought this ancient from my LCS for $10. I liked it because it shows good detail. I have no idea what it is. I figured I Have spent $10 worse ways. Did I make a sucker buy?
Yes, you did good for 10 dollars. Constantinius follis GLORIA EXERCITVS i cant read the mint. Not sure. Mine is Antioch but yours doesn't look to me
Nice coin and a good price. I bought one of the type for $12 back in the 1980's, so you got even a better deal.
Thank You all for your replies. My LCS owner is not into ancients, and he usually has a small box of them for $10 a coin. I always look, and most of them are really crusty and unreadable, but today I saw this one with good detail and decided to take a leap of faith. Iguess I did OK! Thank you all for your help!
@Andres2 Thank you for the ID and great picture. I was able to use that to hunt down some more info. I appreciate your help and gave you a best answer for it!
I don't think I'll start an ancients collection just yet. I will however keep my eye on the ancients at my LCS for anything that catches my eye like this one did. I do want one with the owl on it, maybe one will show up. I know they are expensive. Since I know nothing about them, it's always a gamble when I decide to buy one, so I never spend more the $10 for one. He does have some ID'd for $15 he said, but I didn't see them. He told me they were in the case, but I didn't see them and he was busy so I didn't ask.
Read again. There is no N before IVS. Andres2 got it. Mine is the third workshop rather than the fourth like the coin in question. It was $5 in 2003 so $10 would be close now considering the current market.
another question......is the condition of mine OK? Should I do anything to it to enhance the appearance? I actually like the way it looks, but just wondering.
