Whats it grade, whats it worth? ... not book value, but what will it sell for (in your view)? As usual click for super size Thanks guys!
Photo Limit is 250KB, so Cointalk shrunk them... We would need bigger and better pics to determine the grade and value, like Rzage stated.
Can you see a reflection at all in the coin? And if so, about how many inches away. (This will determine if it is PL, DMPL, or neither) I also see some chatter on the cheek, so grade wise, I will say MS64, if the photos are accurate of course :kewl:
It's hard to tell the grade from those pics, but that coin looks pretty clean, it also looks like it may be PL or DMPL, but I cant be sure. Here's a test for PL & DMPL: DMPL Morgan Dollars, Prooflike Morgans & How to Tell the Difference (The 1st test) Some more info: Identification and Diagnostics of Proof, DMPL, PL Morgan Dollars
It looks like it may be prooflike, but pictures never do a coin justice. They may also hide some imperfections. Based on what I see, MS64 seems like the right fit. In my opinion the slight hits on the breast feathers, hair above the ear, and around the cotton leaves keeps me from saying 65. An 1880-S that I have looked MS64 from the photos that I received when I was buying it. The picture hid the actual surface scratches in all directions, so it got knocked down to AU grade in my opinion. I originally paid $29.05 for it about 4 months ago. I would pay $40 or slightly more for a true MS64 1880-S raw coin.
I can clearly read the newspaper size font on my insurance card from 4-5 inches on the front and 7 inches on the back.
