Hi everyone, I've been collecting Kennedy halves for a while now and thought I would examine my collection further looking for DDOs, DDRs, RPMs, etc. However, I can't seem to find a comprehensive list of Kennedy varieties. My Cherrypicker book (5th edition) has Kennedys but the listings basically end at 1992 as does sites like varietyvista.com. Wexlers has almost nothing on Kennedys. Surely there has to be varieties beyond 1992? (and don't call me Surely (Airplane! movie reference for you youngin's)). I'm thinking about joining CONECA. Do they have comprehensive Kennedy lookups, etc? Do you know of any other reference I might look into? Thanks!
I don’t know of any other references, if someone has one/some I’d like to know also. Kennedy halves are understudied IMO. Single squeeze and NIFC may have limited the interest.
Variety Vista is going to be your best, most up-to-date, and most thorough online reference. VV is maintained by James Wiles, who has long been the lead attributer for CONECA. If he doesn't have it listed there, most likely nobody else is going to have it listed either. Varieties really start to drop off in the mid-90's because of the single-squeeze hub method, and the integrated mintmark punch (the mintmark is part of the hub, and not individually punched into each die). Additionally with the Kennedy, mintages start to plummet (less dies... less varieties).
You make some really good points. I guess a lot of varieties come from high volume production which could result in cuds and interesting die cracks. If you ain't makin' that many, then I guess the dies stay pretty clean.
