Is this a special coin? (slabbed 2009 dime ms 67 NON-satin!)

I'd say that it really is something special and time will reward whoever ends up with it. It is not in my budget but these non-satin 2005 onward coins will be a good thing to have (it seems to me that all of the registry sets have those easy to get satins and skip the real deal biz strikes, another forumite disagreed with me on that but never really showed where the link I provided was wrong).

Well I wouldn't buy it... I would spend my money elsewhere (non modern crap) :D
I think the coin can be "special"
Just depends on the person buying it... For instance, if somebody thinks that the 09 coins are so unbelievably rare, and will stay that way forever, maybe that price is fit for them, it would also be fit for a registry collector

Pretty much any business strike MS67 and up is a special coin. It may be a condition rairity but then you have condition rairities with any coin regardless of whether it is modern or not.

But anybody who thinks it's easy to find business strikes MS67 and up - go try and find one. And no, I don't mean go and find somebody else's that has already been graded. YOU go try and find one.

Doug... we would need to find a supply of this coin first... even a few rolls. For the relatively small population found, this coin is exceedingly rare, BUT it's population will grow in this grade as they become available and the price will drop.

    Just ordered it.

    Just kidding.

Yeah, I don't see what's so special about it, but that's why I'm at this thread posting. So I can be enlightened...

It might be special to someone, but that someone sure isn't me. It could be MS 70.1 for all I care and still be worth a dime.

I apologize if this is a little off topic, but as far as disregarding business strikes, anyone care to comment on 1965,66,67 NON-SMS coins? It seems to me that these should command (at least to some extent) more of a condition rarity premium that is similar to 1983/1983. Are the huge mint figures of 65-67 just nullifying this? Did people hold on to rolls of 65/66/67 non sms ms coins?

What's all the talk about 'modern crap'? Try to put together a set of proof ASEs in pristine condition without buying slabs. I can have a complete set for a well worn 'crap' 09s-VDB. My wall display will be much more impressive than your single piece of '09s-VDB crap.

Can you tell the difference in the SMS issues?

I have been looking for ms66 or higher non-satin dimes from 2005 on and there just do not seem to be many.

Sometimes... but don't test me! I think it depends on the scenario also. Unopened bank rolls for instance... I guess it boils down to the confusion/chaos recognizing these would create?

    Danr,

I have been putting away circulation strike 1¢, 5¢ and 10¢ coins in pristine condition since 1999. When the Mint Sets went satin in 2005, I think I saw an opportunity. These coins are so poorly regarded as collector coins that 20 years from now may become condition rarities and a good investment at face.

Much like my 1982 and 1983 Souvenir Mint sets that I use to fill out my Mint Set run, these coins may be quite sought after once people realize how few of them there are in higher-end UNC grades.

Okay - done. I won't call them modern crap, but they are modern and easy to come by if you show patience on ebay. Of course my raw set was collected from the mint. My slabs came from the ebay. Very nice coins all of them - and 09 S VDB's are easy to find, I would want something more rare for my set of proofs. Then again I tend to think a lot of coins >1900 are modern. :)
