LP-17 was my pick too, but things in the government haven't been going my way in the last year, so it probably won't make it.
I'm not sure what all this guessing game is about but I thought it was announced months ago that the shield design had been selected. Pappio, It will take you all day to hit all 3 locations. The Grant statue ceremony will be swamped, Union station, a stone throw from the ceremony, will be swamped. Your best option is the mint head quarters. Just go through the line 3 times ..and you get the same 18 rolls with much less of a hassle.
Technically, Co-Op, Justndave was correct. The coin shows the Capitol building being REBUILT. It was gutted and in ruins after the British burned it in 1814. Had the British not destroyed the original structure, it might have been completed by 1860.
Thanks Andrew. Something forgotten or never learned, but appreciate the information now. http://www.eyewitnesstohistory.com/washingtonsack.htm Another site mentioned a rain that fell that prevented the buildings from further destruction.
Okay so my memory isnt as bad as I thought. I remember the British doing a number on DC in the war of 1812 and I thought the Capitol building was one of them. Then it was under reconstruction for quite some time thereafter. Whew glad I still actually remember my history after all. I seriously think its going to be some design of the finished Capitol building.
Thanks for the info. Andrew , for folks like me, I've never been there & I'am sure people going next week will appreciate your directions :smile
Here's some pics of the Capitol buildings through the years http://www.aoc.gov/cc/capitol/capitol_construction.cfm
Pappy 0 Alot depends on what type of collector you are. If you get goose bumps from attending the actual ceremony, then that Statue is the place to be to see Moy and assorted speakers and get your coins there. I haven't heard if they are setting up a temporary post office to get your rolls stamped and canceled. There has really been no press (zero) about this at all locally. Union Station has a post office so you can buy there and then go to the post office. If you just want the coins, then the mint stand at the headquarters is the place to go. I have got first day coins for LP2 and LP3 issues. I've got all mine at the Mint headquaters. I tried Union Station for LP2 but the line was over an hour wait time. To long for 6 rolls of cents, in my opinion...lol.
Thank you for the info. Andrew I do wish I could be there but I've got other business to attend to this week & will be out of town :smile
With 2 days to go what will the new 2010 cent be LP 10 ( American Flag with 34 stars ) & favored by the Comm. of Fine Arts, or the LP 13 ( the shield ) favored by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee , or will the Treasury Secretary go out on his own and pick a suprise design from all those other designs , only time will tell : )
I'am with you , there's been so much press given to the LP10 & LP 13 , lets hope they surprise us , the eagle design is cooooool
60% chance or rain ..cool wet temps in the 50's with high winds possible. We'll see who the fair weather coin guys are for sure.
