i think it will not be popular as to 50 statehood quarter. i only like 8 president. washington, madison, jefferson, lincoln, roosevelt, kennedy, reagan and clinton. 50 statehood quarters at least have people of that state supporting it. what's your opinion?. which president you most likely to purchase plenty of coins. i think first year, first issue will be washington. it should be the most popular and famous one. the mintage for that coin will be very high. but then, the price of that coin might be high too. just like the first year first issue, 1999 statehood quarter.
Well Teddy of course. Then mabey Regan. Course I like dead presednet coins alot so I will probably get them all anyway. Oh yeh I will probably get Garfields too. Man I love that cat.
Let's not forget the black, brown, yellow, red and purple presidents. It's bad enoough that they are thinking of making a series of president's wifes, here you go and suggest a women president. You'r just joking aren't you?
If you buy mint sets or proof sets, for the most part, I would say you (we) are all screwed as these ugly presidential dollars will drive the cost of each set WAY up! What do you think 5 new coins (dollar ones at that) will do to proof and mint set costs? Have you given that any thought? Plus, at this time, the Sacagawea will ALSO still be produced. Thats all I want----to keep my Sackie set alive and heck with the presidents and their wives. This is nothing more than Congress pandering to their own future dreams!
I heard the taft coin will picture him in his bathtub to attract female collectors. ha ha. Moen are you an idealistic young man or a stalker? Think about it.
Well Teddy of course. Then mabey Regan. Course I like dead presednet coins alot so I will probably get them all anyway. Oh yeh I will probably get Garfields too. Man I love that cat. lol And theres too many deaD PRESIDENTS ON COINS ALREADY
This weekend I attended my nephew's Pop Warner football game. During it, I used a Kennedy Half Dollar to purchase some snacks. You wouldn't believe the commotion I created as most there never saw one before!?! One person said it looked like Martin Sheen, the actor from West Wing. I just explained, it was the same party in office. I bring this up as the idea of 4 Presidents per year on a coin nobody is going circulate will be a nightmare. These coins will look like a 3rd world country "banana republic" where images of their leaders are on their coinage for the sole pupose of showing the population who is in charge. So...if I were to use these coins at the next Pop Warner football game, I better have a secret service agent with me explaining to the brain trust that Garfield was an actual US President and the coin she/he is holding is worth a dollar. Can you picture this? Talk about adding confusion to day-to-day transactions, but then again, as long as we are stupid enough to spend $500 million per year printing $1 notes that last no more than 16 months, what do you expect? You can't have a successful dollar coin and dollar bill circulating at the same day. It will NEVER work. Been there, done that, tried it with the Peace, IKE, SBA and now the SAC. All circulation failures!
On Friday, I ask a bank teller for all the Kennedy halves she had and she brought one out and asked me if this is the coin I was looking for. She wasn't sure what they looked like.
I hope we don’t see any more presidents, their wives, their kids, their dogs, or their goldfish on any of our coins, especially the dollar. Maybe the half dollar; I seldom see those in circulation.
Long time members of this forum know my minority opinion already. I hope there is a Presidential series, and am very excited about it. I think favorite Presidents question was asked early on. For me, TJ, AJ, Lincoln, Wilson, both Roosevelts, Truman, JFK. We make fun of the little known Presidents, which is fine. However, there are interesting stories behind all of them. Madison - physical stature. Same with Taft. Cleveland - courage. Pierce - Overcoming personal tragedy. Ford, Uniting the country through his honesty. Harding - well, did he really have a secret tunnel out of the White House so he could womanize? The list goes on. It will be a fun series. I hope it happens. By the way, does anybody have an up-dsate on the bill's progress through Congress?
There is no way it could be as popular as the state quarters. Hard to be popular when almost no one will ever see them. A couple of the reasons why the quarters were so popular was that the quarter, which is the workhorse coin of the economy, was in everyones hands and for the most part had not changed in almost four generations. Very few people alive had ever seen a new quarter in circulation that wasn't a Washington quarter. So when they saw all these new designs it piqued their interest and they started hoarding and/or collecting them. With the dollar coin on the other hand you have a coin the public does not use, which a significant portion of the population hasn't even seen. Changing the design on a coin that people do not see, is not going to encourage them to collect them. Before you can get people interested in a coin they have to be using it. And the first step in getting them to use a dollar coin is to withdraw the dollar note. Once you have done that the coin will be circulating and then you won't HAVE to change the designs to make them popular and encourage their use.
