This weeks reward. When I quit smoking I rewarded myself with silver for every week that I was smoke free. Now I'm addicted to silver. At least beats sending my money up in smoke.
Very nice. Like Randy said, great reward. Keep up the good work and soon enough, you will have quite the stack!
Congratulations, both on dropping cigs and substituting silver! Can you get my AGQ silver ETF to do better?
Cool, thats the way to do it. saving the 8 dollars (last time i remember checking like a decade ago) each day if you're a pack a day smoker means a lot more coins over the course of a year. Or even a nicer apartment. Your bank will thank you, at this point even weed is cheaper than tobacco
@beaver96 - I sure do like the reverse design of the 2-pounder, but I really wish that they would give QEII a facelift. Me? I'm going on 7 years smoke-free in September.
I wished that I could have funneled the $3-4K annual that I saved when I quit into silver or gold, but I needed it to help me survive on the Social Insecurity I received.
When my pappy quit I hoped he'd make some cool changes to his life. Instead, in true Saltis fashion he just kept the money, living conservatively as always. His health, and my inheritance have both been helped by quitting, he told me.
Is your Dad still alive? If so, I hope you get to spend many, many more years with him. My Dad passed when I was 50. My Mom passed when I was 59. They were married the day before the attack on Pearl Harbor.
My grandfather, and yes he is. he wuit maybe 4 years ago now! All he did was eat werthers originals whenever he wanted a cigarette. After 60 years of smoking, i thought he was an idiot. But he did it. I have all of my grandparents (and step-grandparents)
I quit a little over 3 years ago. so my silver stack is getting up there and after the first 1,000 ounces I started spending more on my coin collection. Working on halves and type set now. I only get the tobacco urge a couple times a day now but the coin urge kicks in every week.
Sweet reward, Beaver. Quit smoking 11 years ago. Two packs a day every day. I had tried everything to quit.....the patch....the pill.....the gum.....acupuncture.... hypnosis....constant threats from the wifey to stop smoking or else.....nothing worked. Then on a road trip from Wisconsin to Pennsylvania, I started holding my breath until my lungs were on the verge of busting everytime I needed a smoke. At first, it would take away the urge for just a few minutes, but as time went on, I found myself going longer and longer in between breath holdings. I knew I had it licked a few days later when I went a couple hours without even thinking of indulging. .
I've never smoked myself, but my one of my grandpas did. He picked up the habit while he was in the army in Korea and all the rations came with a pack of smokes. He died of emphysema which is a really awful way to go. I'm always glad to see when someone kicks the habit.
That's a worthy habit to quit. I still have the last un-opened pack I had purchased when I quit. It has the Michigan Tax Stamp dated Feb 2018. Thirteen years.
Congrats on quitting. I always say, quitting bogies was the hardest thing I've ever quit, and I've had to quit a few things over the years, wink wink. I've been quit for many years now, and I'm not trying to be discouraging, but oh my goodness, when i smell a lucky or a camel go by, lordy lord. Most ex smokers i speak with hate the smell, but i luv it still, lol. Not as much as i luv being alive, and cancer free though. Keep up the good work.
I quit in 1979. A pack was 35 cents. I still crave them and have dreams about them. In 1983/84 I started saving my quarters. I now have 65+ quart or mayo jars full of them. Those who have quit can be very proud.
