Well I have just received another response from PayPal, one in a lengthly chaiN of back and forth. I wrote a snail mail letter to the President of PayPal objecting to their policy of requiring customers become certified when they reach a certain total dollar volume in lifetime business with them. I thought yea, right when pigs fly!!

A number of email exchanges later I wrote yesterday: "I will close with congratulations to the policy creators, you have won, I give up, I am now throughly convinced that PayPal has no interest in retaining me as a customer. "

Lo and behold I received a response tonight that they are waiving the policy and removing the spending limit on my PayPal account.

So, look out for flying pigs, and if you look up, KEEP YOUR MOUTH CLOSED! :)

That was my position as well, and I did not give them bank account information or apply for their credit card. They just made an exception. I ought to go out and buy a Lottery ticket :)

  5. You are very lucky. I don't use paypal but my mom does. What she did was open a seperate bank account at a different bank then she usually uses and does not keep any money in it. When we want to buy something with Paypal we just go and get money out of the regular account at the regular bank and deposit it in the paypal bank. It's a bit of a hassle but it seems to be the safest route to go.

My paypal account was hacked into not too long ago and someone tried to buy a $750 Iphone. Long story short the seller of the Iphone found something to be fishy and canceled the auction and I got that $750 back. After the ordeal Paypal did send me an authenticator for both my paypal and ebay accounts. Now everytime I want to log in, I have to put in a random password generated by the authenticator or I cant get in. Just posting this to let people know they have this option if they use paypal.

I also went with the separate account option At my credit union the account is free and I don't have it linked to any other account (no overdraft protection etc). The credit union also has online banking and deposits or transfers are done in realtime 24/7. So if I want to make an online purchase of pay a bill I just open a window, transfer funds to that account, and then make my payment/purchase and the account is drained again. About the worst that can hapen if someone is able to hack in is I'll get an overdraft notice. but any true loss is minimal, and usually the credit union will wave the overdraft fee since othing was actually paid out.
