2021 Silver proof set, priced at..... $105.00????

So was looking at the mint website, they priced the 2021 Silver Proof set at $105.00, not 5 quarters like last year, just two. No bonus coin. 7 coins, 4 of them silver weighing 27.908 grams of .999 silver..... I think it's like $22.50 melt?

Have they lost their minds or what? Personally I won't be a buyer, how about you?

Yeah, I planned to buy one but this is nonsensical. I'm over direct from mint purchases. I mean, there are plenty of much cheaper proof sets from the last half century.

 

I was a bit surprised by this price as well... to your point, they don't have 5x quarters this year; this isn't the "deluxe" set which includes the ASE; not sure where they pulled this ridiculous price from.

 

I have an idea..

 

Mt. Vernon has the 2019 Silver proof set for $69.50 also .999 silver. Also selling for similarly priced on Ebay. around $60-$70.

the 2020 set is stupid pricing, I think because of the mint raising it up to $105 at the end of the year, but this 2021 set is a slap in the face with three less quarters than 2020.

Jeesh. I'm not a fan. Can't wait until they price the 2 coin reverse proof silver eagle set or the 2021 Morgan and Peace dollars.

And not even a free cent or nickel as an enticer.... jeesh.

 

You'd be better off waiting for examples to appear on the secondary market in a few years.

 

Not a chance this will make it into my cart. I've been on the bandwagon to stop buying from the mint for about 4 years now. I've got enough 1970's, 1980's, 1990's & 2000's garbage to last a lifetime. Collecting because I like it, not as an investment, became a very old mantra when I felt they were relentless in taking advantage of us.

If I want it, I'll buy it in a year or two on the secondary market for half the issue price.

 

Have never bought from the mint and never will, can't even remember the last time I bought silver in general I get it for F.V now.

 

The problem is that with so many ticked off people deciding to just wait for the secondary market, the mintage may drop so low that the secondary market prices may be HIGHER than the mint price. I mean say so many people decide to wait that the mintage drops to 50,000 sets. What happens then?

 

Never gonna happen, the TV shows and hucksters are gonna buy all of them and work a deal to get the surplus if possible. they may sell less, but HSN and all the others won't be cutting their orders, they will just be raising their prices and buying off a new label from the graders.

 

Not at that price!

I think the key to it is the Washington Crossing the Delaware quarter. I see no indication on the website that these will be available in rolls or bags. A silver Proof one just may become a rare coin indeed. Worth $105......who knows.

I do have Silver Proof sets on my "subscription" list. Still debating on weather to take them off or not.

 

Last time I looked it said they will be released into circulation the beginning of April but that message was december 23.

 

Yes I know they will be released into circulation, but no mention of bags or rolls being available from the mint. The Tuskegee Airman rolls and Bags ar sold out and their availability was announced in the product schedule. I do not see the Washington Quarters rolls and bags on the product schedule. To me that means the only way to get a Proof or Silver Proof is through the mint sets, and rolls of them P,D, or S will not be available. Looks like the only way to get them is from circulation or sets.

 

Actually, maybe I can buy the 2021 to see if it has matching fingerprints with the sets I bought last year... lol

 

The prices for the proofs are all over on ebay,lowest I've see $5-highest $50 just for one!!!! haven't see any regular ones yet which makes me think another W like hunt.

 

Looking at the eBay sold prices, the WCD quarter clad proof is selling all day at $9-$13......The Silver Proof is selling in the $30 + for preorders

@potty dollar 1878 .....That kind of proves my point. The above pre-sale is for Bank Rolls, not Mint Rolls. After looking around online.....the WCD quarter will only be released in P and D Bank Rolls.(just like W quarters)
The only S mint marks will be in Proof and Silver Proof sets. No rolls will be available from the mint as it stands now. Setting the S mints up to be a very sought after item. Even in Pre-sale like above, you are paying $20 a roll (with shipping).

I often wondered how those Presale offers could count on getting what they are selling.
