1902 V nickle

  1. Found this coin while cleaning up some of the junk in my garage. It is a little bowed in the center, not sure how or what could have caused it though

A common date but nice to find. Who knows how it became bent but it wasn't that way originally.

Here's another one that isn't gonna make you rich, due to issues with its condition. As-is, that one's worth less than a buck. But at least this one has a readable date, and it is a 119-year-old nickel. So it has that going for it.

I suppose that it could be flattened carefully without injuring it any worse than it currently sits. But a fun find in the garage. I'd be pretty excited by that.

Yes, not worth a lot of money at all, but still a very fun find.

  7. Ive never actually been into the whole getting rich off my collections, if something comes out as being over face value then I'm happy.. If anything comes back to be something great then ill be even more happy

And that’s precisely the right attitude to have. It’s not always about what something is worth. This was a cool find, and yes, it’s worth more than face value, if only barely.

If you're intersted in the stories behind the coins, you can look up "Racketeer Nickel." (Assuming you may not know the story.) The reverse shows V (Five) CENTS. The word CENTS wasn't there originally. You'll find out why it was put there. :)

  10. You assumed right, to be honest I didnt even know it was called a racketeer nickle. That story is actually really neat. Guy was thinking way outside the bubble for that time.

It's certainly an interesting story. BTW, "Racketeer Nickel" is the name for the gold plated no-CENTS one.

V nickels are fun to find. I enjoy finding any coin that predates our current coin designs. Nickels are cool because you can still find V nickels while CRH nickel rolls.

    Oh, welcome to CT
