Numista-9100. Struck at the New Orleans Mint. A well-circulated but wholesome looking example, in my opinion. The reverse legend seems somewhat softly struck near the edges, but the contrasting toning is attractive. Spoiler: If you want to guess the grade, click here AFTER posting your guess. Spoiler: Slab photo. Click AFTER you post your GTG guess, if you want.
The NGC Coin Explorer page for this date says: "Despite a generous mintage, it seems that the attrition rate for 1856 O dimes was very high. Examples are slightly scarce across all grades, and ones grading XF and higher are very scarce."
Without embarrassing myself too much by saying what I paid, it would appear that I am grossly "underwater" or "upside-down" in my investment on this coin, given the NGC priceguide price and Numismedia trends. NGC = $35.00 F12, $50.00 VF20 Numismedia = $26.00 F12, $63.00 VF20 However, I note that Greysheet, in the old (4/2019) copy I have, puts it at $55.00 in F12 and $85.00 in VF20. That seems a pretty wide spread. DLRC, from whom I bought it, cites the CDN CPG value as $74.00 in F12. I gather that's like the full-retail price from Greysheet? I'm into it for less than that, at least.
