@Phil's Coins Banks in my area no longer allow any stray markings on the paper roll itself. CRHers do that to indicate the roll had been searched. So now I guess they're marking the enders instead. I've found a few like that.
My bank (thus far) has not said anything to me concerning the markings. They know me well enough now that they actually look at rolls before they give (sell) them to me. Phil
It probably is Furyfrog! They had no coin roll wrappers. Marked them as they went about there business!
It's actually super easy...you can use the dull end of a nail clipper or an old staple remover (looks like a rounded off screwdriver tip) to gently pry open the rolls without tearing them. You can then use the rolls to re-wrap instead of getting fresh rolls to do it. To re-crimp them you can use a cheap motorized crimper or even an old style plastic hand crimper if you take your time. Every one of those rolls has been re-crimped, but it looks like tediously by hand.
@Wizank - did you ever count the number of coins in those 7 marked rolls you posted? I had replied on 3/24 that I thought they were each short a quarter.
Yes, each roll had 40 quarters. Subsequent rolls from that same bank were also marked the same way, yet I found 3 "W" quarters and a Tuskegee quarter. I asked the teller, and she said they did that at the bank to keep track of rolls. I will speak to the manager and ask them to stop defacing coins.
a coin roll hunter I know at one time did what you see in the thread, he would use a black marker on each end and if he went to the bank and purchased coins and he received one he marked he would not have to search it. I convinced him NOT to mark the coin but the outside wrapper. I hope he stopped marking the coins. stay safe
hey @Wizank great job bring this to peoples attention. and the last parts of @Jersey magic man post says it all
I could agree with that, except these rolls included 2 W quarters, one very nice 1981 S, and one Tuskegee quarter. No CRHer would leave those in a roll.
hey @Wizank yea your right. it may have been a mistake on the CR part thinking he/she had put the keepers in the keep pile. LOL, did that make any sense. good luck to ya man
I always say that it is very inconsiderate to mark coins. What you may be searching for doesn't mean that it is what someone else is searching for so please don't deface them.
It has to be a bank issue of counts etc. I did not like that in the day and I surely do not like it now. I don’t know if you notice marking on bills. Due to ATM loading and of course counterfeit.
