Favorite Coin in Your Collection, and Why?

Must say, that is the most majestic lion depiction I've seen!

My current favorite is my 1975 Republic of Rhodesia 5 Cent piece. Graded PF67CAM by PCGS. What makes it so special? Extreme rarity. Although there is some debate on mintage, it is generally accepted that no more than 10 were minted in proof. But, other sources claim that only 6 complete sets of Republic of Rhodesia coins were minted for the Ian Smith government by the South African Mint in 1975, so the true number could be 6. In any event, I always wanted to own a coin of this level of rarity and now I do, after 51 years of collecting! I should add that I also like this coin because I’ve always had a bit of fascination and admiration for the plucky Rhodesians who fought like lions for 15 years to maintain their independence and freedom from communism. A lost cause in the end, but one I nevertheless admire.

 

That's a nice looking coin, and thank you for that history, it's definitely worth remembering.

 

Indeed is is. Just as an aside, I just completed reading Ian Smith’s memoirs, “Bitter Harvest: The Great Betrayal and the Dreadful Aftermath.” Great book. It really opened my eyes about what actually went down during that era. So much of what we have had to endure in the past year in this country was lifted straight from the communist playbook that was used to destroy the country of Rhodesia. As such, I found the book to be a cautionary tale. But I digress.... (My other hobby is history!)

 

I guess you had to be there for this one.

 

I was.... And bought four of each except the five ounce and gold.... Only one each of those.... Yeah, I was all in on that one!

I have at least 13 boxes handy and another twenty plus that are harder to get to. One of the boxes that I'm slowly getting to has all these flat rate envelopes in it. One day I'll get there.
