I just spent almost my whole stimulus check on a single coin. It's the single coin that's been on my wantlist longest since I (re)started collecting several years ago. I'm very excited about it but I won't share it until it is safely in hand! Anyone else spent their stimulus checks on coins? What have you bought?
Last night I got an LRB for an emperor I needed and tonight I bought a Spanish Patagon. 2 months was too long to go without new coins. But honestly, neither was stimmy money. Just coins I actually could afford & wanted.
«Stimmy».... You know the printing presses are running hot when goverment handouts get a cozy little name like that... We haven’t gotten any stimmys in Norway, but I’m still buying with both hands, as I expect that the US will export their inflation and prices will continue to rise in the short term. If I got a stimulus check, I would probably have bought an expensive coin too. Good choice! Looking forward to see it.
(An arguably political post above- and the responses to it- have been removed. Keep that aspect out of the discussion, please.) I didn't buy any coins, but paid off both my credit cards, so that I may be free to buy more coins later. (Hopefully without using either of them- that's the idea, anyway.)
Money is fungible. If my stimulus payment is electronically transferred to my bank account on day 1, and the same thing happens with my monthly Social Security payment on day 5, and on day 7 I buy a coin that's less than the sum of either payment -- a coin which I would have purchased anyway even if the payments hadn't yet arrived -- did I buy the coin with my stimulus check? My Social Security payment? Or neither? I have no idea.
I wanted to spend 1/2 mine on coins and save 1/2 (same for hers)... We compromised.. I spending 400 or so on coins the rest in savings... somehow I lost and won at the same time lol
I didn’t get the stimmy because I messed up 2019 tax return and put myself as a dependent. The amendment I send in last year never got processed. I can claim the 2020 stim for the tax return, and I’ll probably have to wait till 2022 to claim the 2021 stimmy. Ugh
Paid bills with our checks. We're more comfortable this way. I would have gone thru the drive thru for a meal, but me and the Mrs. would have just fought over the toy. Oh well.
I'm lucky enough to not need any portion of the stimulus, so I guess I'll spend whatever I get on a coin or two (not sure though - just watched a live auction with very mixed feelings; just wow).
Here it is: Milan, Charles V. 1535-1554. AR Testone da 25 Soldi (27mm, 7.73 g, 8h). IMP • CAES • CAROLVS • V • AVG, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / SALVS A[V]G VSTA, personification of Po River reclining right on upturned urn from which water flows below, left hand holding scepter resting on raised left knee; to right Salus standing left, feeding serpent rising from altar at left and holding scepter; PΛDVS • MLI in exergue. CNI V 50; Crippa 12. The dies of this coin were executed by Leone Leoni, making it, in my opinion, one of the true masterpieces of Renaissance coinage.
That's wonderful, altruistic and compassionate. People like you who support those in need are a tonic to raise the spirits and hope in these trying times.
