Have a question,I got a box of nickels and pennies. The box of pennies appears to only have new coins all rolls have BU 2020 ends.Is it worth the hunt or just not do it at all!!!!.I have found some nice oldies in the nickel box so far including a 1942 wheatie which might be the only one for the day.
Personally, I would say not worth it at all, but there are some here who get into varieties and errors and have the patience to look through thousands of the same coin for miniscule differences.
I have about 3 boxes of uncirculated 2019 D pennies that I don't want to turn in but don't want to search though lol. I looked at a few rolls and stopped. I don't see how you can find errors like that
Two motivations for me to search a brick of new cents: putting together a high grade roll for the roll set and for possible varieties. I have not been overly successful with varieties of merit searching a solid date of coins (so, not really worth it to me). I recently returned a brick of 2015 cents I had under my desk for 5+ years...got them back a few months later when I ordered up a brick. Go figure!! But I weigh that against the cost to my bank to send out customer wrapped rolls (I reroll my coinage) since my bank's policy is to collect customer wrapped coinage and send that out on their next coin drop by Loomis (other). In that case, I'll order another brick and have it in hand before returning the other, unopened box (which presumably goes to their local business accounts).
I've found that very little shows up in Denver coins. Occasionally very minor die cracks on the top left of the shield but little else. Denver has IMHO a much better grasp on quality control than does Philly.
If 2015 P don't give up on that box. I had purchased one from an EBAY dealer in 2015 and it gave up nearly 10 rolls of WDDR-004 a very nice doubled die. I only paid $50.00 for the box (which could have been a dud) but my first sale of one roll @$99.00 took quick care of that.
ultimately i would say if you don't find what your looking for in that box you can try again with a new one or just try and find what your looking for at a coin shop in your area
Thanks Tommy. All I recall were 4-5 die sets with various chips and cracks. But I suppose it’s worth a second look now that I have them.
