    Hi everyone,

I'm new to all of this but I purchased a book called Strike It Rich With Pocket Change. So I've been looking through some coins my dad had and I kept after he passed away.
Unfortunately the book only starts with 1971 Kennedy halves.

I have a Franklin Half here and was wondering if you could tell me if this would be considered a Double Die because I really don't know. If so, do you think it's worth anything? Sorry for the huge picture. It's the only way I could get it to show up clearly.

    Thanks,

    Deb

It looks like to me Mechanical or Machine Doubling

    Machine doubling...sorry.
And FYI, the proper term is DoubleD Die, not double die.

I have the same book and about a $1000 in change to look at with my stereo microscope. It's a lot of fun! Hopefully we'll both find some goodies. I'm saving most of my looking for the long, upcoming winter months. Good searching to you and have fun!

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

That is, without a doubt, Machine doubling, and is not worth anything. If you are particularly interested in the Franklin and earlier Kennedies, I highly recommend "Treasure Hunting Franklin and Kennedy Half Dollars". Very good book, lots of good pics.

Awww, darn. I got all excited over nothing... LOL I actually read in the book that it is called doubled die and not double die right I posted this. So, thank you. I learned something new. :)

$1000.00 worth of change? Ouch! That's a lot of searching. I hope you find something good. I'm using a 30x loupe to look at mine. I saw the stereo microscope and wish I had one. I'll have to try to save up for one.

Thank you for the book recommendation. I'm not interested in halves particularly, but I like to have as many books as possible to compare things to, especially books with good clear pictures, so I will probably pick it up at some point.

So do you all think it is possible to find something good in pocket change, or do you think it's all been picked over already?
