Atocha Silver Mel Fisher Token

    Hi Gang!

    This piece walked into the shop this morning... A very strange piece. It is definitely silver (I would assume recovered Atocha silver???)

    Anyone ever seen one of these before?

    Haven't even seen them in the overpriced museum stores there. I wonder if they were created as presentation pieces to investors?

    I've heard of them, never seen one before now that I can recall. But yes, they were made (not sure if minted or cast) from silver recovered from the wreck. But it was not bars, those are way too expensive. It was coins that were damaged to the point of not being worth anything anymore that were melted down.

    As to value, I have no idea but you can bet they were sold for way more than they are actually worth. Hopefully you did not pay much for it.
