Went through two more boxes of halves and found nothing. Not one coin worth keeping.

I'm in a silver dry spell right now.......back at it starting tomorrow hoping for better luck!

Just thought of this..all 10 rolls of nickels I searched through were plastic wrapped..who does that? The company the banks order from?

Is there any relative merit between Brinks, Dunbar and Fed-wrapped boxes? Any difference in the types of coins you might find?

Alrighty then. The Fed half box I mentioned earlier has been searched. Not wonderful, but not horrible either.
    5 40%ers
    4 2004 (2p, 2d)
    2 2005 (1p, 1d)
    16 2006 (11p, 5d)

In addition, I got quite a few high grade coins from other years for my album.

In some years, I now have 10's and scores of high grade Kennedy's. I really hate to throw them to the coin machine, but I really have no need of that many and don't anticipate them being worth 10 bucks a coin in my lifetime. Does anyone collect year rolls of Kennedy's? I'd rather provide them to a collector than a machine.

    And the dry spell continues......

Searched another box of halves, no silver. I did find one keeper, a 2005 s proof (a little worn).

    1969S Proof

The images below are of the 1969S Proof I found in the recent box of halves I searched (full results above). There are many green spots on the front that I think are rather unappealing. Is there any cleaning that you can recommend (I know that cleaning is almost always not recommended), or should I just leave it alone and be glad that I even found a silver proof? The areas circled in red show where the worst of the green is (although the pictures wash it out a bit - it looks greener in person).

Haven't been going through many boxes lately but got a box of halves today and found 9 40% and 1 64. Not too bad but disappointing for what I was hoping for after finding 3 40% in the first roll.

Just sold all my coin roll hunting half dollars to apmex today(730$ face+40$ 90%)! heres the last shot before they get boxed up and shipped off.... sold for 2.30 a coin -shipping. The 1964s sold for around 11.50$ on the dollar. Quite pleased with their prices as my local coin guy offered me 1.75 a coin and 10$ on the dollar for the 90%s

That's awesome boxerchip! I'm really torn about what to do with mine. I've only got about eight rolls so far, but can't decide if I want to keep it physical in this form or sell it off to buy 90% or even bullion in exchange. Doing so would lose some value but also take up less space and weight...and maybe be a little prettier. :)

I really enjoyed the hunt and took pride in it (past tense because I went though a TON of coins and im taking a break planing my next strike :p) I would wash all my coins and then sort them by year (as you can see) then place them in tubes and seal them up. I recommend saving them up till you get 500-1000$ face value and then selling them at the right time. Quite a nice feeling to know you paid almost nothing and are getting a BIG chunk of change for your work. I personally will be investing in buffalo gold with my profits, but that means I paid about 1/4th price for any buffalo gold I buy :p Best of luck in your search CP! and remember, its that ONE find that you're looking for. I found almost 50% of that silver in two boxes. Keep at it till you get yours!

I just took 14 of my ugliest (some of them toned black) 40%ers and sold them on ebay for $39.10 plus $2.65 shipping. That was $2.79 a coin. I was quite surprised and pleased. But, this may have been a fluke, and it was only 14 coins. The price you got from Amex for all of those coins was excellent!!

Ya, that Apmex price was higher than I expected. Cool to know. I also watch the bulliondirect nucleo exchange to see what people are offering. Sometimes you get benefitial extremes in bid/ask prices because the spread is only as live as real people add things. The 1% commission per trade also is much cheaper than eBay.

I do already stack by date, but what's that about washing the coins? If you're selling at junk silver prices based on weight, I figured you'd want all the dirt and lint you could get on them. :)

Maybe, but I enjoy holding and looking at my coins, sorta gross to do this after circulation... if only you could see a pair of my gloves after 8,000$ in halves. hahaha

    Erin:

Keep those mint rolls, they sell for a premium. Or, you could break them open and sell them one by one on Ebay and you will get a premium for each coin. That was a nice find.
