Thanks for bringing this thread to my attention! It is quite interesting to see that someone else has found something very similar, if not the same error occurring on the 2021 cents.
Fred is correct and I thought someone would make a post drawing attention to the heavy lines up to the neck the back of the neck and the front of the face , it also would seem to indicate feeder finger action IMO. Jim
This is interesting. From what I can see from the pictures (this post and the previous post) appear to be from the same die. Part of the anomaly appears to be raised and linear, and part appears to incused and somewhat parallel to the raised part. Maybe it’s from feeder finger damage and then a buildup of debris?
I have been trying to reason the same thing. I see the feeder finger damage, but what I can't correlate is how the damage goes from this: To this: The recess on the coin means there was a build up on the die surface. I trust Fred as to all errors, seems there is something missing here, To only be feeder finger damage. Unless all the debris from the feeder finger scrapes stuck onto the feeder finger, and then was deposited stuck to the die surface, where it struck X amount of coins. This would still make it a strike thru. What are we missing @Fred Weinberg
Good question, and I can't answer it - your point is well taken, and yes, the 'scrapes' shouldn't be lower on the surface of the coin, if the Die itself was damaged. There is a genuine cause of them, but I'm not aware of it at this point. And, it's been 15 years since I've been to the Phily Mint. If it's not FF scrapes, then I'm not sure of the cause.
@jodi3stax you are gonna have to use the upload a file button. Their are plenty of hosting sites that will not copy and paste.
