Gold Eisenhower? Fraud?

Hi.
I saw this on Craigslist and immediately thought that it was fraud.
http://charlotte.craigslist.org/atq/1446446310.html

I can't find any reference to such an item existing in anything but a gold plated coin, which obviously wouldn't be worth over a couple bucks, much less $1050.
I wrote the seller offering some links and my opinion, but was responded to with a flurry of "proof" that he was real and that this was a real coin. The language used and some of the assumptions made as to his leadership status in several coin collection organizations really was over the top and I have thus turned him in to craigslist for fraud.
Perhaps I should have gotten second opinions first, but can I get anyone to back me up on this? Does anyone know of a solid gold Ike dollar coin?
Thanks,
Christian

There are no 22k gold Ikes. Gold plated, maybe. The coins in the link provided don't even look plated to me. Looks more like some sort o' toning....what a crock.

For the fun of it, check out one of his responses to me...

people used to think there were no 1933 saint gaudens, but many have turned up!! this was a true 22k gold ike, it was stamped by error when the first gold eagles were minted in 1972. i know, your going to say no such thing as a gold 1972 eagle, i have 200 of them, govt. secret, very scare!!! this ike was dropped in the mix in 1972 when them prototype eagles were being made, i could be one of ONE!!! SOLID GOLD FOOL!!! YOU MISSED IT!!!

This was the most polite, though still hillarious, response I got. He also claimed to be the CEO of ANA in another other one. :)
If you've got time, join me in turning him in to craigslist. I just really take offense to scammers.
Thanks,

Another big scam man on craigslist, no surprise there. Even though I've purchased some silver coins off of craigslist and a very nice guitar and amp with no problems. Craigslist is still the underarm pit of the world so be very careful. :D

I love that line! So the double eagle was just going through prototype production in the 1970's when the Ike dollar was coming out? Amazing news...contact Coin World!!!

It sounds like Craig's List is where people go when ebay kicks them to the curb. It looks like the ink is already wearing off of the eagle!!!

Love his logic......"i(t) could be one of ONE!!!" Yet, in his add, he states, "GOLD IKES ARE ON FIRE!! GOING UP EVERYDAY!!"

How bad do you have to be to to get kicked off ebay? I mean they are selling counterfiets! I guess with ebay selling counterfiets is alright, but just taking an old ike and spray painting it with gold paint crosses the line!

It is a matter of degrees.

Do you mean that my gold Ikes are not real?

Heck, I know that they are real, I paid a lot for them.

I have a whole roll.

LOL!
Thanks for the responses guys.
This truly makes my day.
But now, the saga continues....

I mean, you gotta give credit to this guy. He keeps with a known lie and tries to play it up in an effort to "scare" me off. I turned him into Craigslist, but haven't thought twice about it since. Now he's just making it fun.
I received this email last night....

~Christian

YOU BACK WOODS MORON, COIN COLLECTING DOES NOT MEAN GOING TO WALMART FOR A SIX PACK OF PABST BLUE RIBBON AND THINKING YOUR CHANGE RECEIVED ARE COLLECTIBLE COINS. CHRISTIES OUT OF NEW YORK CITY PURCHASED THIS COIN, IT ILL BE IN THERE NEXT AUCTION, ITS EXPECTED TO BRING BETWEEN $5000 AND $7000 CLAMS!!! YOU KNOW I DIDN'T MIND YOU RUNNING YOUR MOUTH WHEN YOU WERE PUSHING HUCKABEE, BUT TO CALL ME A FRAUD, I'LL GOING TO SEND YOUR NAME OVER TO MY ATTORNEY AND SEE WHAT HE HAS TO SAY ABOUT YOUR CLAIMS............

I mean seriously, you've just gotta love this!! He won't quit!
He even apparently Googled my email address to learn a little fact about me in order to make it sound as if he knew who I was previously! LOL.
Ya, can't wait to hear from his McLawyer. And for the record, I never called him a fraud. I said he was *perpetrating* a fraud in my letter to Craigslist. :)

I'm not going to respond and fuel the fire, but I thought this was worth sharing as a reminder that some people will stoop to depths unimaginable by generally honest and trustworthy people.

Yikes what a freak... I wasn't aware Christies sold gold plated Ikes... I'll be sure to be watching their next auction to bid on this piece... ;)

I'd say respond with a link to this thread and let him read it... but I can see that starting MASSIVE flame war...

Thanks, this really made my day. *LOL* If he e-mails you anything else keep us posted…it gives a good case of the chuckles.

As far as a flame war goes...I'm almost tempted to have you invite him to join the forum. They say laughter is the best medicine, right? Which is what we all need to protect ourselves this flu season.

We think alike. I don't need a flame war either in my email box or on this site. Since he's proven an ability to use Google (surprising) and I'm pretty easily findable, I also don't want to show up at home one night with a pickup truck in my driveway with a less than sober and disgruntled criminal mastermind ready to "throw down". :)

Bobbeth87, just for you here's some emails I didn't share previously that came at the same time as the first (with about 6 others in various states of completion).....
