1988 CENT OBVERSE TOP DOUBLE "EDGE"?

    On the obverse there is a line through " IN GOD WE TRUST " .....What causes that?

    That is what is known as a rim ridge, a sign of a well worn die.

    DDD-Die deterioration doubling I believe and what you are seeing is a ridge ring up top.
