another request for opinions

    I purchased this coin today. The seller called it XF... I'm seeing an AU coin. There is typical weakness in the motto, and in the A above it in STATES, but that is a strike issue, not wear. I don't see signs of cleaning, and it has a rich overall tone.

    Looks like a AU50 w/ scratch near hair

    Yeah, The light of the scanner really pronounced it. It does not jump out to the eye, when held in hand.

    Sorry Rick, but I would question the possibility of it's being cleaned at some point in its life. Guess it's the tonning in and around the ladys lead and the difference with the outer edge, that makes me feel this way.

    You may be right. I've looked it over close, and I can't see any evidence in the surface. There's no uniform directional scratchs or funny stuff within the devices.

    I figured that was toning resulting for some older storage medium.

    What's the luster look like in hand ? That would be a good determining factor.

    Personally, I think it looks good. The reverse is better, which is why I thought it had been in an evironment that protected the back more than the front.
