Hey guys, spunky as usual, BNB here and I would like to go a little deep today with the forum.

I'll preface by saying, I really don't know why... but I LOVEE coins.
    And not just ANYYYYY coin..

It has to be that special "one" ;)

    Okay, now, onto you.

What makes you love a coin so much?
    I mean..
Is it apart of who you are?
Or.. is it apart of your family's lineage?
How about because you learned of that bust from History class in 9th grade..

What is your explanation for loving some of the coins you love.

For example, I love the 3 leg buffalo because it's a different coin. It's unusual.
It's also a buffalo nickel and I've always loved the feel, look, and shape of those coins.

Alright folks, enough outta my yapper. Halloween's over, one last trick or treat for you all :)

Easy - the history of the coin. No big collection to get passed down to me. While the high grade coins are the nicest to imagine on how they were taken care of over the years - they lower grade coins excite me just as much. A nice problem free large cent in any grade is amazing - just imagining everywhere it went. So cool...and then the challenge of finding the various varieties is fun. The same with bust halves - they seem to be more abundant than large cents.

    Original sharply struck surfaces,

    Original sharply struck surfaces.
Nothing else matters to me - if it has that it has it all.
I don't care if it's grey or blast white, or for copper, brown or red. If it has a strong strike, is crisp and the fields are free from defects with original color it has it!
I don't think we talk about strike on here enough and it is the thing that seperates the "men from the boys"!

  5. Good thread. For me it's all about the history. I love history, and I always have. When I realized that I could own small pieces of history, that have even played a role in the history I love so much actually happening, well, that was it, I became a coin collector for life. Unfortunatly that did not happen until last spring (2008).
I actually tend to prefer circulated coins because they made history happen. I like a mixture of both. Uncirculated, how they looked when they were new at their point in history, and circulated, because they made the history happen.

I'm with Mark. I love the history. Always have been a big history person, not just with coins, but world history in general. Coins are just a tangible part of that history, as well as the other antiques I've collected over the years.

Every single coin I own has a story behind it. I don't buy it unless its that special one. Generally I look for a combination of history, artistic quality, and rarity (real rarity, not conditional or that junk). Usually, if it doesn't have both at least two of those, I don't buy it. Unless it has one of them and its really cheap. :D

I like that feeling when you finally put that last coin from the series into your collection. I feel content, at least, until I move on to the next series.

I'm with BHP on this one. A strong strike is #1 priority for me. I really love the small cents with a glossy golden tan look. As a matter of fact, I prefer them over red cents...

I like large flashy silver proof ASEs for there cameo beauty and perfection. I also have all of the proof silver statehood quarters, but anything smaller than that is too small for my tastes, except for the proof pres dollars. After I complete the proof ASEs, I'll probably start on Morgans.
