Take a look at this 1987 dime. I had to lighten it in some of the images so you could hopefully see it better. It is almost black in most areas. There are so many things wrong with this coin.... The G is broken and stretched or something. The 1 in the date is almost invisible compared to the rest of the numbers. The area above the ear... take a look. I would appreciate your opinions, If you would like full 1200 dpi images please email a request to; toolady@comcast.net Thanks.
All damage and the coin was likely buried for awhile and rediscovered by someone with a metal detector. The color is due to the ground conditions in which it was buried and the scratches and other damages are likely the result of being contacted with a trowel or small screw driver as the coin was being dug up. There is no need for larger pictures. Thanks, Bill
Toolbox fodder It looks like it has been used as a shim, repeatedly. Looks like someone has used it as a tool.
I thought the rim was interesting too. I was thinking that if it were damage wouldn't it show it on the rim too? The G is the only thing in that area that looks damaged... If something were to have made the G look that way wouldn't there be other signs of damage surrounding it?
Something scrapped against the surface of the coin - you can see it on many of the obverse devices and the rim - I don't care to hypothesize the cause, it is simply damaged.
toolady, Hi... Look at the rim to the left of the motto. It is all scraped up. That's the damage that was likely caused by the same thing that damaged the G. The coin really is a wreck and there is damage visible on the rim and the surface Thanks, Bill PS: I've metal detected for about 25 years so I can recognize a coin that has been recovered I've inflicted tons of that kind of damage to coins myself.
This coin is a ground coin the black fields are positive proof the elements with in the earth soil will change the color and the moisture of the rain to which this coin went through. post mint damage Billy learn about coins from Billy coinprofessor@usa.com
I just found one and it looks like it doesn't have any scratches... All the words can be seen clearly
