it is true that 2005 dollar and half dollar will not be issued for general circulation?. we can only buy it directly from the u.s. mint on the mint set or mint roll. i heard this from a dealer ads.
It's my understanding that the dollar and half dollar have not been issued for circulation for the last 4 years. I don't collect either but this is something that I read or heard from a coin show. YOu have to go to the Mint or 3rd party (who buys them from the MInt).
Since 2002, the Kennedy half dollar can only be ordered from the mint directly either in mint sets, proof sets, rolls, bags, etc. But having said that, I have to say that I have found some of these dates in circulation. I don't collect the dollar coins but I imagine it's the same story.
Because they made 21,200,000-P's and 19,504,000-D's and they aren't a very popular coin. They probably still have a vault full. They are easily found in circulation.
This year the mint threw in a twist. You can't get the regular Half and dollar coins by purchasing the mint set. The coins in the mint set have a "special" matte finish. So if you want the buisness strikes you have to get the roll or bag coins that the mint sells either thru the mint or from a third party.
dollar and half dollar i preferred collecting kennedy half than sacagawea dollar. i liked both reverse and obverse for kennedy half.
2005 dollar & 2005 half dollar i still don't have a roll of half dollar or dollar. i wish i can have it at my bank. anyway, before i used to have a lot of rolls (other denomination) from the bank. but i usually use them all.
