Myself, I don't know alot about gold coins. A friend of mine wants to know about an 1902-s coin he has, it's the coin smaller than a dime. I want to know the fair price, and what would be a fair price to offer for this coin. He called me wanting to sell it. Any help will be appreciated..Ray

A description of the coin would be helpful if you cannot obtain a picture. What was on the obverse? The reverse? Is it a US coin?

If it's dated 1902 and smaller than a dime, as the poster indicated, it's not a U.S. gold coin.

All I can think of is that it might be a "miniature" reproduction of a larger denomination. Value would probably be a function of the purity of the gold, if any, and the weight.

Well, a quarter eagle can look like it's smaller than a dime, even though it's about the same size.
    But a 1902-S? I don't have my Redbook handy, but I'm under the impression that that's a Philadelphia-only date.

If it's a quater eagle, spot value currently for one of those is about $135.00.

However, there were none minted at the San francisco mint that year.

Without a picture or a better description (whats on the coin) its impossible to tell.
