the 2005 proof 5 pc statehood set and the 2004 silver proof 5 pc statehood set without sleeve or box were selling by some dealer at a bargain. buy these sets and you will enjoy big profit in the near future. remember the premier silver proof set and the proof set dated from 1992 - 1998. the retail price were the same right now.

i also got one 2004 silver proof set (5 pc of statehood only) without sleeves/box and c.o.a. it was cheap and alright. only $14.95. with sleeves cost you $32.00 to $37.00.

I found a 2001 unc. Silver Buffalo dollar with everything except the COA. I think it was $90,about 35-50% less than they normally go for.

Anchor,Here is a description from the Bowers &Merena website:

"The 2001 Buffalo silver dollar is one of the most popular coins in the history of the US Mint. This beautiful commemorative coin, when offered by the US Mint in a "coin and currency" set, was a complete sellout in only four days, and there is a highly active after-market among dealers and collectors alike. This new issue is designed after one of the most favored and sought after of all coins, the Buffalo nickel of 1913-38. Only minor modifications were made in the coin's motif as the new dollar coin was adopted, and the result is a sensational success."

This new coin was minted in two formats: the circulation strike and the Proof. The term "circulation strike" is something of a misnomer in this case, of course, as the coin will never reach circulation due to its silver content and premium issue price. What is important is that there are two ways to collect this new coin, and both are proving to be highly popular.

    proof set without sleeves

is it safe to buy proof set 5 pc statehood in plastic case without c.o.a. and sleeves/box. the price is very much bargain. and after all we are buying the worth of coins only. any suggestion and comment?. another disadvantage thing is that these kind of sets which were broken up from 11 pc set are not putting ads from dealers for their buying price. we can only see for selling by them.

Safe ?? That depends. The coins may be of lower qulaity than normal. I don't think I'd ever do it unless I could see the coins in hand. And if you ever try to sell them - expect to get less than you pay.

I am not sure what your asking here but If you are trying to determine if any one has purchased sight unseen sets without COA than yes I have. I have both the 2004 and 2005 proof quarters without COA I fully intend to break them out of the holder and place them in Direct Fit holders so that I can place them in my collection as I wish.

Since I have not come across after market holders similar to the mints I feel relatively safe. However I am taking a risk and I am aware that at any point I can get screwed.

Now if I am mistaken and there are mint case replicas for the quarters availble someone please let me know so I can stop purchasing in this manner.

There is no such thing. The silver quarters weren't sold seperately from the complete silver proof sets that year. I suppose that someone might split up one of those sets, but only if they are dumb, since the whole set is worth significantly more than the sum of the individual coins.

    plastic case

i still can't open the plastic case from the proof set. i can't find any small hole or area to open it up. and if it open. can it be re-use again?. what about if we close it. will it be the same close tight like we get from the mint or will it be hole or crack or loose between 2 pc of plastic?.

I am not aware of any mint sets which are open and closeable. As far as I know they are sonically sealed. This processes causes the plastics from each half to flow together. Hence you have to break them open. I do it all the time with proof sets but I have to warn you to be carefull.

I you really want to open the set it will not be reuseable but you can by taking a stout knife, like a paring knife, and use the blade edge to pry cut into one of the corners along the seam once the case begins to crack move the knife along the crack and propigate it around the outside. Be carefule. Do not use the piont. Do not jag the knife into the set try to use just the rounded part of the edge. (usually located about 2/3 of the way up the blade) I actually use the bottle cap opener on my leatherman to pry with instead of a knife. The one with the blade like end. I figure there is a considerably smaller chance of me cutting of a finger. Not that I really care about the finger but the blood would ruin the proof coins.

Any time I break out coins I have soft clean cotton colths laid out just incase. I also have each direct fit I will be using open and ready for the coins. I try not to touch the coins at all but if I do I use the cloth or gloves. Finger prints are cool for CSI's but coin collectors hate them.

***Warning*** be careful. the case can crack and send peices of plastic flying. I have been hit in the eye with some of the small shards of plastic before. Thank god I wear glasses. Imagine collecting coins and not being able to see what you have.

Hope this answeres thing a little better. BTW the westward journy 2 and 4 coin sets are the only cases that I know of which are reuseable. Well those and SGS's slabs.
