Does anyone here collect Hard Times or Civil War tokens

I do along with Merchant cards.

Hi, Stefanie. I collect them as a sideline to my US type set and "mini-series'" I just have a few, here are a couple, you have probably seen them on CU.

I have a few, but no pics right now. A couple are CW patriotic tokens, the rest are hard times tokens from the Pittsburgh, PA area.

What attracted me to this particular token is that there were so very few that were made for the South as far as CWT's go.
But this token was actually made in the North

 

Wow! You have some quality tokens there Stephanie, very impressive! I love your Wealth of the South token, wish mine were as nice. They are so scarce that I pick them up when I can just to have a couple, figuring I can upgrade later. I didn't recognize a couple of the tokens in the cwt portion of the display board - the two Hartford, Conn (w/the deer), and the Millions For Freedom (center of top row). Are they cwts?

If you like cwts from the South, here is one that I have (Schiller). It is not listed in Fulds storecard book, but Kanzinger listed it in his price guide. It is id LA670A-1do. The other is a favorite of mine because there are family ties to the issuer.

 

I have 8 or 10 patriotic CWTs, many in really high grades that I purchased 40 or so years ago as a kid. More recently, I loaned my copy of Fuld to someone, never got it back, and sort of lost interest. I guess I never figured out how to put a "set" of these together.

 

A "set" can be whatever you would like it to be. Even short sets can be tough, bigger sets usually tougher. George and Melvin Fuld owned something like 500,000 Civil War tokens, and they did not even have a complete town set (400 at the time). I've got a lot of mini-sets in the works, but none are complete. My Oliver Boutwell set is closest to completion. I have 34 of the 39 listed varieties plus two unlisted ones. Of the 5 I need, 2 are unique, 2 have 2-4 known, and the easy one has 5-10 known.

 

I have a small binder with tokens, nothing that nice just stuff that I looked at and wanted. Here's a couple of Conder tokens. Hopefully I can take some better pics and get more.

I dont collect tokens, but I did find this in my pennies. I did find a list of civil war tokens, but this one is not on it. Does anybody have a book or list that shows this token with a rarity rating?
its 1863 indian head on one side, and Detroit City Flour Mills on the reverse.

I have several nice Hard Times tokens and picked up two very nice Conders at FUN. I'll post up some photos when I can.

 

I dont' actively collect them but see them at work on occasion. If I have a few bucks "burning a hole" in my pocket I'll pick one up.

No pics but the history and designs are way cool.
