I'm wondering if someone here might have saved any of these from about 1959 to 1964? Looking for some information from the classifieds.
Please let me know if you can help. Thanks.

I'm trying to figure out who first came out with the term "1955 Poor Man's doubled die" and started promoting them. With all the books and information on Lincoln cents, you would think there would have been mention of who started it all. It's interesting how this gimmick has lasted for almost 50 years and is still being used today. The demand for the real DDO started about 59 or 60, so the poorman's probably started a while after that. From what I'm being told these magazines were quite large so it may be a bit much to ask others to dig thru it. I think I can borrow the magazines from the ANA. That might be my best bet. Thanks guys. If you do see anything please feel free to post it.

Larry, I had the May, 1961 issue out for another project of mine, so I went through it and found no indication of the use of "Poorman's Doubled die". In fact even discussing the 1955/55, the more common term is "1955 Double Shift". 3 companies used that term and 1 used the terms " Doubled die or shift 1955 Lincoln".

    3 BU special for $325, or $115 each. :)

I will dig out the Dec. issue later and go through it for you.

I am interested in that information also, as I posted a thread here recently about the correctness of selling a coin named as such.

That's really wild. Looks like even the 1955/55 did not have a standard name in 1961. I wonder if "Double Shift" was a widely used term for what we now call a Doubled die? Thanks Jim.

An old post, I know, but if anyone still needs back issues of Numismatic Scrapbook magazine I have most from 1959 to 1965. I am also LOOKING for the July and August 1962 issues. I need some material therein for a section in my abraded die book concerning the 1916 Doubled die Obverse/1-O-V Buffalo 5c. Thanks!!

Are you looking for something in the ads in the 1962 issues or in the text. I have a bound volume of 1962 here but many of the ads have been removed. I probably have the complete issues at home but they will take me longer to locate. (I have about 3/4ths of a complete run of Scrapbooks from 1935 to 1976.)
