Found 20 Eisenhower dollars at a bank today. None of the major varieties, but not bad for $1 each.

Got a partial box (almost all of it), $430 worth.

    No silver
    5 2009 (both mints)
    2005
    2004

I'll ask again, do you keep all of the post 2002 ones due to the low mintage?

Yes (keep all 2002+ and '87), and I am still searching for 02D & both 03's.

    Awesome proof find BTW. I would rather find a proof than a 40% (but not a 64:)) I only have found 4 (73, 74, 08 & 74 IKE) so far.

Why 1987? Was that a low mintage year?

87 did not have any halves in circulation, these are compared to 12 million in other years.

    1987 P - 2,890,758
    1987 D - 2,890,758

    (as per wikipedia)

    In Answer to Bobbeth...

I do keep all 2002+, but sometimes I wonder why. I find them every now and then. I think I have about two Whitman pages full of them.

The '87 coins must be rare, I've never seen one yet of either mint mark.

I have searched just under $6500 of halves - the equivalent of about 13 boxes - in the last couple of months (since I began). I have found:

    34 2002+ (20 of these were a full mint roll of 09d)
    2 Proofs
    90 40%
    13 '64 Kennedy
    5 Walkers
    6 Franklins
    0 1987 coins
    0 1970 coins
    0 Doubled Dies
1 Worthless Mexican Peso, but in good condition

-Pretty good luck on the whol with the silver coins, I think.

Got a 67 half from a teller today. She says, I don't have anything. Then was like "Do you take these?" It was toned so brown. Well, yeah, I said. Then I got 2 rolls of the new quarters. tails on both sides.

I went to a few banks today looking for halves. Only got about $200 worth...and it looks like it's already been looked through and re-rolled. Got 3 40%ers out of a coin tray at one of the banks though.
The same teller asked me if I wanted any silver dollars as well!
My heart skipped a bit as I imaginged a couple Morgan's being handed over to me...
She reached under the counter and pulled out a rediculously stuffed bank envelop and poured onto the counter...
    56....
    Eisenhowers.
    :)
No proofs or silvers, but some in pretty nice condition.
I don't know why, but I like Ike dollars. I like the man and I like space (so the moon on a coin is pretty cool!) ha.

    Question.
I see so much varying info on Ike dollars... all the silver one's are proof, but are all the proofs silver? Thanks.

My (current) avatar is a 74 Ike proof non-silver (clad) which i picked up at a bank.

Also there are uncirculated 40% silver Ikes which were sold in blue packaging that are called blues.

    afm1982 Miami has the Dolphins...

Got two boxes of halves the other day. Both boxes were nothing but recycled rolls (already searched.) I haven't gotten a 'virgin' box of halves in almost a year. Also means I haven't pulled any silver out of a box in about a year either.

Was at another bank today, and the teller was telling me about a guy who orders $5000 in halves each week. No wonder I can't find anything good. This area is flooded with his rejects. (And I live in central florida, with about 1.5 million other people)

    Anyone else have that problem?

How about spending the rejects? I try my darndest to spend as many of the halves as possible. How bout the rest of you?

I actually found a 1987-P in the first box of $500 I ever searched!! It was pretty banged up and was probably in VF-XF grade, nothing special but the date. Would much rather be finding silver though :) :thumb:
