    Because usually it is soldered into the holder. And even when it isn't, the brackets on the holder wear on the coin as does the bezel (the thing around it) thus damaging the coin.

    Yes, specific gravity test will tell you pretty close.

    What if he had it removed? Or do they always damage it setting it in jewelry?

    Sorry I was not finding your postings. I am sorry that I asked if anyone was a buyer my bad. I did contact the web site that you gave me and they were very helpful with the information that they had on the site. Thank you very much. So as I understand it this site is just for talking about coin information not buying or selling. thank you all for your help. Shane

    Let's just say that I have never heard of a coin that was set in jewelry that was not damaged.
