Hi guys, here is what I am thinking- we buy 40% halfs and war nickesl at their melt silver value. But there are 60% of other stuff wich is not cheap at all. Is it really that expensive to split metals so this 60% are not worth anything? Or should we hoard them?

The "other stuff" is copper [and other base metals], which at $1.60 per pound doesn't amount to much additional value. But the coins are still worth hoarding in my opinion, unless you were thinking of sending them to me, in which case I'll tell you they are worthless and do you a favor by offering to pay the postage to get the dirty little things out of your house. :)

If you assumed zero cost to seperate the metals, a 40% silver half contains $1.06 worth of silver at $7 per oz. The copper in the coin is worth 2.4 cents with copper at $1.60 per pound So the full theoreticalvalue of the metal in the coin is $1.08 Dealers are paying what 75 cents apiece? The other 33 cents represents the profit for the dealer, transportation expenses, melting expense, refining expense, and the profit for the smelter.
