I am thinking about getting a set of Ike's there are 32 of them right? What should I expect to pay for a complete set of raw unc. and proofs in an album? I think they are very underrated by most people Ike was an American Hero, and the coins are pretty cool with view of the Earth from the Moon that is one of the best reverses ever.

Actually, it means Double Struck Close Obverse Overlap but the Mint Mark did play a part in the coins attribution:

The R was the other determining factor:

As for a Complete Set in an Album, expect to pay anywhere from $150 to $300. However, I'd recommend buying them individually so you can get familiar with each coin. In nice condition, some are readily available while others are not and some require a certain financial "sacrifice".

    Kent,
Yes there are 32 coins, not counting the major varieties.
Purchasing a completed set will run you right around the $200.00 mark
Depending upon condition. have seen them on e-bay going right about that price. Now if you want to get them in higher grades (MS66 and up) they will cost you considerably more. A really great place to start learning about The Eisenhower Dollar series is http://www.ikegroup.org/ this group of gentlemen that are on this site are very knowledgeable about Ike's. And the knowledge flows freely. They are a great group of guys and I am glad to be able to study these coins with them. Be careful though I set out to build a simple Dansco set of Ike's and it has grown into a full blown obsession:hail: with finding the different varieties in the series. Definitely the most fun I have had with any series. It's like when I was a kid and found my first 1883 no cent Liberty Head nickel while roll searching.Still have that coin and is still one of my favorites.
The best of luck to you with the hunt

IKEs are literally open diamond mine which few have bothered to explore.
Learn your varieties and set them aside for the future as this is a win win situation.

Where can you find IKE's other than dealers or ebay (auctions in general)? I get them from the tellers occasionaly, but can you order bags like you do with halves? I enjoy roll searching.
    thanks Kent

Unfortunately, IKEs are not as readily available as Kennedy's and few banks can get them for you. A $1,000 bag of IKE's will set you back anywhere from $1,800 to $3,000 if you buy them online but, I recently heard of a fellow that acquired 3 full bags at face value from a bank! Lucky son-of-a-gun! You need to look around and you need to ask.
Original owner banks are a great source if you can find any.

Other than that, you're stuck with buying rolls online or through dealers. Some dealers do have some very nice rolls but since the dollar per pound on return is no where near what a 90% Silver coin will fetch, most dealers leave them at home. Again, you need to ask.

    Good Luck!

They are getting harder and harder to find raw and in high grades everyday. One day, I would love to find a raw IKE that I can send in and get graded myself without having to buy the coins already slabbed.

    My Toned Beauty

WOW - What a nice looking group of Ikes everybody has put up for viewing. Here is one of my favorites from my Rainbow / Toned set. Eventhough this is a 1976-s T1 it had the peg leg design in the R Liberty.
Look how small the R is on this one. Could this be a Peg Leg Proof ?? Thanks for all the great photos.

My 1976T1 is a pegleg also. As an amateur IKE collector, from what I gather, there are some IKEs where the Pegleg is present and accepted and others where it is not. My 72 proof also has a pegleg. The 1971 proof with a pegleg is considered a variety and is worth a few bucks.

As Ikes are a great bargain right now. All the standard issues with proof and the different varities can be put together very cheaply. I have found most of the varities and errors on ebay since most of the sellers have no idea what they are selling and the prices are crazy low. Mostly under $10.00 including shipping. Peg Legs - Talon Heads - FEV - 1972 T2 - Gotta luv ebay.
