I know I could go to the mint's website and check it out, but what is the process to return something from the mint. My 2009 Mint set looks like @#$%. The 2009 P Kennedy has a scratch and the 2009 P Fourth Lincoln was out of its hole and had slide over to the third spot. Maybe I should separate them before I have a bunch of little cents running around, but do I pay return shipping and do I have to pay shipping again to get a new set sent out?
Hey Tater, Sorry that you got such a crappy set. I have returned several things to the mint and the first thing you need to keep in mind is the new 7 day return policy, so time is of the essence. If the set is damaged....the mint will reimburse you your shipping costs, but only if it is damaged. If you are returning the set because you think the coins look crappy then you are on your own there and that cost is out of pocket. Here is what I do.... I usually buy another set and wait for it to come in. Then I compare the two sets and take the best one. Then I return the set that is going back....all at my cost.....of course.....but at least this way I am happy. I have never had to do this more than once for any given coin, but I will do whatever it takes to get the coins I like and am happy with. Good luck and keep us posted. Joe
I got my unc and proof set yesterday. The unc set has the cent out of its holder, and sitting inthe spot for the half. No, the half is in that spot as well. So i have a cent holder slot that is empty, and a half dollar slot that has both. I will just mark the mint shipper as a return with an exchange, and send it back. When they get it, they will send me another set - i hope!
Now that may actually qualify as a damaged product. I would suspect they will credit you your shipping costs. Look into it.
You guys are scarring me. I always order about 10 to 15 of the proof sets and the same with uncir sets. I give most away for Christmas Presents so hate to open for an inspection. I keep a few of each for myself and never open them either. Now your making me think of checking them all out.
Maybe there's something to be said for buying the more common stuff like mint sets from dealers off ebay? Sometimes you can get them cheaper than the mint and you at least know what you're getting. And you're likely to get them faster with less hassle if they need to be returned. I've seen many auctions where the seller states the coins are perfect with 'no spots'. Or, you can at least ask the seller before you bid. That would eliminate this stuff pretty quick.
Sorry to hear it. After reading this I went ahead and opened three of the five mint sets that I ordered. One was perfect, the second one had a tear in the packaging, and the third one had the Lincoln Log Cabin Cent getting itself acquainted with the Tyler Dollar. Although disappointed, I think I’ll leave the two of them alone, and hopefully my patience will result in a new breed of coin – *Drum roll please* the Tyler Log Cabin Cent/Dollar – depends on which genes are more dominant. Joking aside, when I had to return my 2008 Silver Proof Set I had to pay the return shipping out of pocket – despite the fact the item was damaged in that the case was cracked and the coins were falling out. I went ahead and put insurance on the package along with a tracking number, so that I could check on its progress. Long story short, it arrived at the Mint’s return center in four days, and it was another five months before I heard anything back from them. First I noticed my credit card was reimbursed the full amount (i.e. cost of the proof set plus the S&H) then a day later it was charged the same amount that they reimbursed. I received no conformation e-mail, but noticed on my online account that another order was placed for a proof set. About a week later I received a proof set that was in excellent condition. The whole return process took almost six months. :headbang: Is it just me or is the Mint getting lazy? Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get the Log Cabin Cent back in its designated spot?
I was just trying to figure out how my cent got out of its holder when it slide around more. Luck for me it slide towards its home and with a minor little tap of the set on its end on the table it went back into its spot. The problem is now that it is up side down. I'm thinking I might just keep it now and use it in a future trade. If I order more stuff from the mint I'll get another one, or I'll search for a deal on ebay on the next sleepless night I have.
I got my three mint sets earlier this week. I don't usually buy them but got them this year because of the shortage of 2009 coins in circulatiion. I only opened one of the three boxes to look at them. I have a question for the mint set collectors. What is the best way to store the mint sets after opening the box? I carefully placed the P & D sets back into the cardboard box and plan to put them in a quart size zip lock bag. Is there a better method?
Here's a twist to my US Mint saga. My mother calls me up and says that a box form the Mint has been delivered. I'm excited thinking that it is my LN6 that has been in transit for the past nine days. I go down there and pick it up> I open the package and to my surprise, bam another 2009 mint set. I haven't sent the first one back or even contacted the Mint but I received another on. Now I need to see if the credit card has been hit and I am crossing my fingers in that I hope thy didn't mess up and send a mint set in place of my LN6. I don't get it. I guess I shouldn't try to figure it out.
