I got this coin I really like and I like the way it looks too. Ok here it is, it's the only pic I have. It's a 5 pesos 1948 from Mexico. It has a Cuauhtemoc on the obverse and the Estados Unidos on the reverse with the eagle biting the snake. Very cool coin to me. So what y’all think? Has it been cleaned? It looks to me like a mechanic type person got it full of grease and wiped it off and luckily for me it turned out looking great, I don’t know. :D Anyone?

    I think it's just toning.

    Does it feel greasy?

It looks to me like the final stages of silver toneing brown to black. I would say it has not been cleaned. Traci

    Thanks for your opinion, Rip!
    MissSasha,
I don't know, never taken it out of it's holder. I'll take the toning answer. thx

  6. It does not appear to have been cleaned based on the pictures to me. Maybe a dipping but I don't see any hairlines that are the telltale sign of wiping.
