Wanted to go through a box of cents at lunch today and look at what the bank gave me. :)

The question is what to do with them now? Are dealers paying a premium for them? Sell the entire box or by groups on ebay?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks ~ Darryl

you might get $50 from them on ebay right now, the question is, Is that worth your time? If not cash them in for older ones.

Lol - been hoping for so long that I might get a box I would have to laugh if I did that. I may just hold onto them and save for trading down the road. I wish they were lp3's because I still have not picked up rolls of those.

    Thanks both for the advice!

I got a box of lp3's last week. Same situation-went into the bank looking for older cents, asked for a box and out comes a sealed string&son box. Anything worth searching for in the lp3?

No idea but you might want to check coneca or weler's site to see what is listed.

LOL, USS656, you have my sincerest condolences!

I would suggest you be very generous at the "Take a Penny,
Leave a Penny" cups in your local stores.

    LOL - that's funny. :)

I think the bay is the way to go with these. I already had about 8 rolls set away before todays box.

    Best regards ~ Darryl

    They still in rolls?

I'll promise you double face value in Kentucky Fried Chicken Chits if they are in mildly used onion rolls. Seems they never got released here and I have some fools.....ere....friends that think Abe was born here in KY and want to prove it.

...or one for one "UNSEARCHED" (NOT) Wheats! 8^)

Let me do some conversion factors while I can determine how many friends want to get me killed.

I thought all of the original rolls today were from string&son and that the wrappers are white as opposed to brown. Also the box my bank gave me from string & son had a viewing hole above each roll for a visual check. These look like brown rolls to me.

    errors

You can look through the rolls and find any error coins. I have heard that the 2009 pennies can have errors

I do not believe that String&Son are the only ones that get coins from the Fed for distribution. Brinks gets them and wraps in clear plastic. This distribution company gets them and wraps in brown wrappers. No holes in the boxes and that is why I opened them, otherwise they would still be closed. I will not open any of the rolls as I am not ready to look through 5000 cents. After about 100 I would want to pull my hair out.

    Thanks!

Why not put them on the open forum for a small premium and let your fellow coin talk buddies who do not have any yet get a taste? Just a thought...

I see. Just brought it up because if they weren't original rolls then I'd definitely just take them back and trade for more. I'm the same way. Most of the errors in the '09's especially series 2 & 3 are so miniscule that it's not worth my time. Granted the great 2009 DDO may be waiting to be found, but it ain't gonna be found by me.

That's okay as it has come up before but never really discussed. I have to wonder how many different companies handle coins for distribution to banks and businesses? There are no marking on this box so it would be hard to identify the distributor without asking my bank. I may just do that.

If I had a lot of time and boxes were really easy to get I might take a couple weeks and go through one box but that is not the case at least here and for me so it will be better to dump them and let someone else do it.

    Darryl,
do with them, what I do with them.
Put them in a drawer and never look at em again.
Orrr.. find a Canadian with a new box of Canadian cents to trade with, ;)

LOL - Too many to sit on at the moment. Already had about 8 rolls in a drawer I had paid a small premium for. :( Would rather dump them and recover what I paid for the other rolls I have picked up.

Personally, I would hang onto them in case someone finds a major (popular) error. Then you can either search them yourself or sell the box as an "unsearched hoard".
