I needed a peace dollar for my type set and this one fit perfectly. http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320437654145&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT Let me know what you think! I did alright for a low-MS coin at $17 shipped
It seems like an OK buy at that price, BUT, the coin looks to have some really bad marks on Liberty's face, the focal point. You could probably get a noticeably nicer coin for just a few dollars more. Are you more interested in filling a hole in your set based on price, or the quality and appeal of the coin?
I was looking for quality at a reasonable price, it looks like a couple light scratches or rub reflecting the light a certain way. Either way, I'm happy with my purchase since it's a nice coin and for only $3.50 above spot.
That was my feeling too. Still, you picked this puppy up for a really decent price. I'd o' picked her up too for that money.....
The good news... seems lustrous. The bad news... as Mark pointed out, it's pretty baggy with a big hit in the PFP (prime focal point - the cheek). One's eyes are naturally drawn there, so bag marks have more visual impact than if the same mark were hidden in the hair. It's hard to go wrong at $17 for a first-time. It all depends on your personal goals. Enjoy !
Its hard to tell what is happening on the check from the angle of the pics. The price was good hope it works for you in your type set. IF you find a better on I'm sure you can sell the one you have for what you have into it.
It looks pretty to me. If you like it, don't worry what anybody else thinks. Your price was very good! I buy what catches my eye, regardless of grade, as long as the price is right.
This is really funny to me because I will have a similiar peace dollar I bought for $22 dollars and it's in an old ANACS slab as an MS62. Check it out, oh I didn't get mine yet either. :thumb: Hope y'all can see, I haven't figured out this whole pic scene yet.
I think it's an good buy for what your needs are. I recently picked up 2 peace $s at a coin show for $15 each but they were generic AU not Bu. I've noticed that when a seller has the coin posed at an angle he's usually hiding something. Just from looking at the 2 photos of the obverse it seems there is something he's hiding. But then again, maybe not and you'll have your BU Peace for your type set. Be sure to post a photo when it arrives, Bruce
I think that I would have tried to find one in-hand rather than taking a risk on an auction. That said, with the price of silver there is limited downside risk, but more often that not gambles like this (buying sight unseen coins raw from eBay) end up not paying off. I hope the OP broke this rule and got a wonderful coin!...Mike
The coin may not be perfect. But peace dollars are a very beautiful coin and the price you paid is well worth it. I've bid that amount on much less attractive peace dollars with tired eyes well past my bed time!!!
