I'm surprised ebay let this fly. It might cut into their bottom line even more. Did you see their last quarter earnings?
This hobby is getting sort of like those become a millionair as seen on TV but purchasing properties for no money down. They don't buy or sell properties themselves, just the books and CD's on how to do it. Only with coins it's not buying selling coins, it's writting books about them. At a coin show I go to there is dealer that has 2 to 3 tables of books, Albums, Folders, etc. No coins. And he probably does the best buisness there. Now I wonder when the next book that will come out about all these coin forums. Thier ratings, members, usefullness, length of time in existance, etc. Think I'll start that book now.
Never criticize the dealer selling coin books he's bought when he he buys out a collection. I lucked out at the Kentucky State show this past weekend. This dealer sells a lot of used supplies and some books. He had five boxes of books from three collections he had purchased. (This was just half of them.) There was some great stuff in those boxes! Picked up a copy of Fractional Currency by Carothers (reprint but I couldn't get lucky enough to have gotten an original.), ANS Coinage of the America's conference 1986 Americas Silver coinage and 1989 Americas Gold Coinage Excellent books and once again duplicates for me but these books were originally $25 and lately have been pushing $50 each, I got them for $12 each. A Wayte Raymand booklet "The secret history of the Gobrecht coinages 1836 - 1840 by Breen (Original). An original copy of "Notes on eighteenth century tokens" by Arthur Waters published by Seaby in 1954. The last original copy I saw went for $75, I paid $50 for my first copy, this one cost me $7. He had three copies of Early Coins of America by Sylvester Crosby, two more recent copies at around $30 each (current price for these is about $45) and I bought the 1945 printing for $15. I got the latest edition of the Civil War Patriotic tokens book for $19 (a $50 book) All of these books look like they have never been opened. There was also an 1885 copy of Evan book on the early mint, an 1889 copy of the US annual mint report, a 1902 copy of the mint report. Thee were in rough conditon, and believe it or not a copy of the Early Dimes book! Brand new with dust jacket! I have a copy already, burned and water damaged and I've wanted a replacement, but the book is long out of print and copies lately have been going for $250. I was tickled to get this one for $30. And there was a lot of good stuff that I didn't buy. First edition of Sheldon's Early American Cents, and one I probably should have bought an original 1920 printing of Miller's book on Connecticut cents, Ryder on Vermonts, and one on Massachusetts coinage. I can't help but wonder what was in the other half that he didn't bring!
