Is the 1864 indian head cent the only year that has an "L"? If not, what are the other years?

1864 with L was just the first year and then follows on all years afterwards.

Your welcome. I recommend getting Red Book by Rick Snow on Flying Eagle and Indian Head Cents. If nothing else it helps identify so of the rarer varieties for each date. I got my at my local Borders for around $15. Then if you really want to get serious about them you can get the rest of Rick's books.

This is true. If you want to get the whole picture of flying Eagle and Indian Head Cents then these books are essential.

What? What do you mean by "L"? The "L" in the headdress?

I have the Red Books. I think that I was confused because the 1864 "L" is a higher price than the 1864 w/o the "L". I wasn't sure why there was such a big deal of the 1864 "L" if the other years proceeding 1864 were struck with the "L" also. I guess it is because of 1864 being the 1st year that has the "L" on them. If I ask a question that has already been asked and answered, please forgive me.

Not a dumb question and sometimes searching this site is not easy to find an answer. I believe the addition cost for the with L is because of the mintage number versus the no L versions.

And for Midigger - the L stands for Longacre. This initial is place on the ribbon bonnet near the last feather.
