Extreme ejection marks

    Found this in change the other day. Looks to simply be marks made when ejected from the press, but I'd never seen one this extreme before. All outer lettering and devices run to the rim on both sides, though the reverse seems worse. Just something different to look at.

    the Alaska State quarter has had a few type found so far 6 claw/die crack & 2 head fish.but here one of the 6 claw.I have not found a 2 headed fish yet

    Your coin exhibits die deterioration. The fine lines that radiate from each letter towards the rim, those are areas where, due to extreme die wear, very fine groves developed in the die and caused fine raised lines on the coin. That is clear and very direct evidence of a deteriorated die.

    Thanks, Rockdude. I've seen a lot of coins with this, but this one made me laugh, it was so bad. It looks like the lettering is making a run for the rims.

    Yep, Die deterioration on the first coin....and die chips on the coins with extra claws. Of course they aren't really extra claws but places where the die has chipped and a small piece has broken away. It's not uncommon to find small raised anomalies on the bears' claws.
