http://www.cbr.ru/eng/bank-notes_coins/Base_of_memorable_coins/coins.asp?cat_num=5514-0063 I am interested in purchasing the above. The face is approximately $.33 and I would like to buy a roll? Does anyone know the best place to buy this inexpensively? Thanks
That's a good question, I'd love to have a bag or two of them too... Haven't yet seen any in circulation and they don't have them in banks either. Looks like they can be found only in Moscow at the moment :headbang:
I've been here about a year and I've found less than a 100 of them. They are quite difficult to find, and if there are any in the cash register you have to specifically ask for them or you'll get only banknotes.
When I was in Russia back in 2002, commemorative 10 ruble coins are just difficult to find in circulation. I only got a couple while I was there and they were both Gagarin 10 ruble coins. From what I hear, a lot of the bimetal coins are hoarded from circulation and 10 ruble notes were pretty much favored. Well a lot of those coins can be sold on ebay for a dollar or more easily. Clearly three times more than it's face value. However from this year on, Goznak stopped printing 10 ruble notes and the mints have issued a new general circulation 10 ruble coin. What is interesting is that the size and composition of the new 10 ruble coin is completely different from the commemorative 10 ruble coin. Lastly, as far as I know, Russian coins are never packed in rolls - they come in bags of 100 and obtaining one bag usually cost a crazy prenium. For example like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/2001-Russia-Off...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item45e826b8df Might give this seller a try: http://cgi.ebay.com/Russia-Coin-10-...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item19b6f1a87b
They are in circulation - in Moscow, and in Moscow only for the time being... Also, it is almost certain that the SPMD-piece will not be minted at all in 2009.
