I went to my favorite shop and Bought 5 coins for 55 cents. The first 3 I grabbed were these 1971, 1974, and 1976 Franklin Mint Collectors Society medals which are 24K Gold-Plated Sterling Silver with an ASW of 0.20 oz each. And my final 2 coins are a Great Britain 20 pence = 0.33 USD and a Swiss 20 rappen = 0.19 USD, So I really paid $0.03 USD for Everything Post your Cherry Picks of the Week Too!!!
Donn: You did very good! Perhaps my next coin show I'll have something to show. Just to be technical, you bought 2 coins and three medals/tokens. The Franklin Mint pieces are not coins, which can only be issued by a valid governmental entity.
Right you are. Now if I could just get my local shop to sell me some bust halves for $0 .53 I would have some cherry picks for this thread.
You should learn your technicalities before correcting some one. The 3 of them are medals not tokens. A token would be a piece resembling a coin issued as money by some person or body other than a de jure government b : a piece resembling a coin issued for use (as for fare on a bus) by a particular group on specified terms. And you are also wrong on the account of The Franklin Mint minting coins/ currency for they have on behalf of multiple countries such as (Through 1969 all decimal coinage of the Bahamas was executed at the Royal Mint in England. Since that time issues have been struck at both the Royal Mint and at the Franklin Mint (FM) in the U.S.A) and Barbados and Belize, etc. etc. should I go on?:thumb:
Well I would have to say my cherry pick of the week was this 1935 State of New Mexico tax token. Cost me 1 cent plus shipping. Traci
I haven't got it yet but I snatched it off of the bay. Actually I'm waiting for 3 coins but I'll just list the nickels. A 1966 toned Jefferson beauty for 5 bucks and change and a 1913 buffalo Type I. I'm hoping both of these are gems. Oh I paid 20 and change for the buffalo, dang nickels are expensive as all get out!! What gets me is the darn BIN's now those are ridiculous!! :thumb:
before you criticize, re-read my posting. yes, I am well aware that Franklin Mint minted coins for other governmental authorities. However, the ones above are not any of those. As far as medals v tokens, I'll concede, in spite of your tone. See, I can accept valid comments, but not self serving commentary. try again.
Then perhaps you should consider reading your original post. If you didn't make a mistake to start with then I wouldn't have said anything to yu about your mistake which incited your response. Also, since you are being technical, please learn to read, since I said medals/tokens. Just to correct your correction. Or giving a reading lesson. To wit, I'll take Dumb Retorts for $100 please, Alex.
I bid on a lot of 10 Standing Liberty quarters, as I noticed one was a 1929-D. Sold the 29-d on ebay and kept the rest. Bought at a little under melt.
My rebuttal was in reference to this comment, which clearly states that pieces minted at the Franklin Mint cannot be coins, which is incorrect. And my main point of the entire rebuttal is that you could have just simply enjoyed the thread with out getting all analytically correct, and further more it just cracks me up that in trying to correct me, you yourself made several errors, instead of just living with my one. So now you my friend can try again!!!:thumb:
