Ebay purchase in question, thought?

    Here's my dilemma:

I won the action on the 6th, paid for it on the 9th (informed the seller I was waiting to pay as another auction of his was ending and I was trying to win). Didn't win the second so just paid for the first.

Around the 18th I noticed no coin arrived yet and looked up the auction. Ebay stated that "estimated delivery time was October 27th to 30th". WHAT?

Keep in mind that the seller is in NJ, I am in NY.

I email the guy and he tells me "I shipped it on the 15th". SO, he ships it 6 days after being paid with PayPal. Strange.

I ask him for tracking #, as it's standard with paypal payment and he tells me "shipped normal mail, no delivery confirmation". Also weird.

Now, how can it possibly take until 27th-30th to receive something from the neighboring state?

The seller has 100% feedback, mostly coin sales of low-price stuff, my purchase was low-priced modern commemorative, not worth the scam for $5.00.

I feel like something fishy is going on. Should I file notice with PayPal right away or actually wait until the 30th?

And what kind of mail takes that long to arrive, did he send it Pony Express or Zeppelin or something?

Did the buyers listing say he was shipping 1st Class mail? If that's the case, then no, there would be no tracking number. I've had a couple of occasions where a buyer has paid paypal, and I got notice from paypal that it was paid, but I needed to wait for confirmation that the funds were available. A few days later I received notice that funds had cleared. Did you have the funds in your paypal account, or were they tranferred from your bank to papal? I've found it normally only takes a couple of days with neighboring states, but if he mailed it Friday, I'd at least give it 5 business days.

Every time I shipped with paypal, it gave a tracking # on the printout. I'm looking at it right now. Says it's part of the buyer protection. So, he better make with the tracking #.

Nope, he did not have to wait for the funds, the cash was IN paypal. I don't like to wait for echecks or account transfers so I don't make anyone else wait either.

I am still NOT understanding why he mailed out the item whole 6 days after payment and why it's slated to be delivered 20+ days after payment. I have NEVER seen a shipping service takethat long, even media mail gets to locations faster.

Since he sels us coins, I'm going to assume he did not have the item in hand when he put it up for auction and had to wait to get it from elsewhere. probably China for all I know. Something I REALLY do not like, as I am about to recieve a coin that will not be the one pictured.

Either way, his perfect 100% rating is going to go down.

I would at least approach the seller first. People work hard for those 100% positives. He may have an explanation that makes perfect sense.

Most of my items I ship first class, and list first class shipping as the method. No way to get a tracking number there. The only time there would be a tracking number is if the seller purchased the shipping label through paypal(which is overpriced) or paid for delivery confirmation. Plain vanilla first class mail doesn't come with a tracking number.

Ah, ok, I was under impression that tracking # came standard with a paypal payment. That's what paypal attempts to say, I guess it's not 100% true. There's a shock!

Alright, I'll try asking the seller again. First email he wsas dismissive and did not explain the delay.

Still, I've recieved items from overseas faster then this from across the river.

I'll give it until friday, then take further steps.

You are getting all worked up over nothing. Alot of ebay seller don't ship right away. I state in my auctions that I ship within 5 days of payment. I only go to the post office on Saturdays so if an auction ends on Sunday and the buyer pays on Sunday ..the item ships the following Saturday. Simple.

Shipping time varies even though you are the next state over. It he ships in a box then it takes long than shipping in an envelope. I don't know why, it just does.

So, relax ... If it doesn't come by the end of next week ...you have a reason ..right now ...you are wrong to be angry over nothing. There is nothing fishy going on at all. Patience is a virtue that you seem to be a little short of.

i believe ebay standards state the seller has 30 days to make good onhis shipment. How long does Paypal state you have towait to open a claim - isnt it also 30 days?

its been a while since buying on ebay and having an issue - i forget all these little things!

    Good luck!!!

It has only been 8 business days since you paid & 4 business days since he claimed he shipped it. First Class can take 5+ days to arrive & Parcel Post could take twice as long. I suggest waiting it out until the end of next week. Some sellers are slower than others. I sell on eBay too and sometimes I am that slow guy. Be patient. One of these days you might have a $30k Gold Eagle your waiting to come back from one of the grading companies which decides to take a couple of months to get it back to you. Then you will have more reason to panic.

I have sent items by USPS Certified Mail First Class and that has a tracking number.

Costs around $2.80 to use Certified, and, of course, only within the USA.

Some sellers like to charge for 2-3 day priority then use parcel post and pocket the rest for themselves. I had somebody pull that with a baseball card!

Then it's time to use the appropriate feedback wording along with any option you choose.

Thanks everyone, I'll try and hold off over-reacting until I get the item and judge the "quality service" then.

Don't wait any further. Open a claim with PayPal. Unless he sent the piece by Pony Express, It should have arrived by now! Wait a minute, the piece you purchased was only $5.00 ??? sheesh. Okay, well I would still open a claim with paypal, if it does not arrive within a day or two at the latest.

I think sometimes we get spoiled with quick delivery by some sellers, often receiving a purchase in just a few days. So when someone lags a little, it's only natural to start worrying. Many sellers try and ship within 24 hours of payment (I know I do). But there are alot of "part-time" sellers (with full time jobs) who, as previously stated above, can only get to the post office once a week.

jioring, sorry but that is an unjustified excuse and a very poor business approach by this seller.
