Hey gang!! After another post was brought back to life with one of these I used to own I decided I needed another one of these in my life hahaha!! This just came in the mail this morning. A monstrous obverse die cap. It weighs 3.2 grams and is a single planchet cap. Enjoy!
something very different ... first impression was a coin placed inside a ring then, then it looked like an earthen pottery gone a lil off shape
Curious if any of the TPGs create custom slabs if such a thing was sent in for grading? Canada is America's Hat! err... 'cap' in this case!
I asked earlier but was still wondering if any of the TPGs put these in custom made slabs, given the thickness of this piece? Hoping to find out or see examples of how they encapsulate larger than usual pieces not standard to their holder designs. Thanks.
That truly is one of those pieces where you have to wonder what the world was going on that day when it was created. I don't know that I have ever seen an image of such a dramatic capped die.
NGC has a special double thickness slab they developed for slabbing very thick ancient coins. It might work well for this.
I would like a capped die morgan or peace, it would make a fine brandy snifter. too bad I don't snift brandy anymore)
I thought about it. I think I like being able to handle this piece (carefully of course) I think they lose some of their neatness being encapsulated.
