    in summary:
$26 was an interesting in fairly inexpensive lesson in the fact that there ain't no free lunch on eBay.

Sorry, but that is just my opinion.

PS: Since you did not realize about the silver war nickels (1942 -part year, thru 1945) and the value of a 1912 D V-nickel you really should buy a Red Book.
If you want to collect you can't just buy and then depend on others to value the stuff, education is the most important part of collecting.

It isn't that others do not want to help you, it is important to have references handy for yourself.

    This is inspirational.

I'm going to give it a try this weekend with my own "I don't know anything about coins" auction. I'll put some low grade common coins and some no date buffs into 2x2's toss them in a ziplog bag and post them on ebay for $25.00. "Found in grandma's attic" - will offer hours of fun and enjoyment. I have a lot of culls laying around that could be working for me instead of collecting dust in a coffee can.

I'd love to find some "inexpensive lesson" seekers !

To tell you the truth guys, I am very happy with all the coins I got! Even the (NO DATE) Buffulo nickels are cool if you dont have any-(like me). I am going to start a book and try to fill it now. I am having a ball with this thread. Some people like what I got, and some think I made a bad choice, (thats cool either way). as long as I am having fun with this, is all that matters, right? OK here is a picture of my favorite coin I got in the bunch. what do you think?-BILL

I don't know what it is about those shiny proofs, but they're always a nice find. I hoard all the proofs I get my hands on.

If you like the coins and you are happy with them, it worths. I think one shouldn't just see the value of the coin, but the value of sharing with friends, talking about, enjoying, having a good time. THAT value is much more than the value of the single pieces.

Glad you had a good time, thats what it's all about. I don't think anyone really said you made a bad call on the bid, but rather, with experience with doing so, now you can move on to more and better finds. With the right tools, the same lot could have been had for 1/3 the price, and the fun would have still been there. As a beginner, I think you're doing just as well as anyone else here did when they started. Thanks for sharing the pics. Hope you keep it up.
    Guy~
