I am looking to start a collection of state quarters, both P and D, from the beginning for each of my nephews and neices. Any advice or ideas on where to get the older quarters rolls would be nice, other than ebay.. Thanks!
Check around online or with a local coin dealer. You can usually find complete (read - most up to date) sets of P&D Unc state quarters in nice books fairly cheap. If you prefer and enjoy the hunt, I'd suggest getting $100 of ciruclate rolls of quarters from your local bank (I'd suggest calling ahead) and then have fun searching through them. This can be fun for your nieces and nephews to if they are old enough to join in the hunt.
One of the coin shops I go to has every state quarter in the display (both mints). Double face value though. I found most of mine searching through rolls (more fun). I still can't find a couple mints, so I may result to purchasing from the shop.
Heck being here in Florida, I think I have gotten all the states from both mints in change where ever I buy stuff--But bank rolls prolly ur best bet--if u want em quick--
Just looked through the last issue of "CoinWorld" and counted no less than 14 individual companies or individuals that sell exactly what you are searching for. Having said that, I would suggest looking through your loose change and finding them in this manner. They will mean a lot more to you than simply buying rolls and putting them away. Remember, its a hobby and meant to be fun.
My mother has me putting together 8 sets. She intends to give one to each grand kid. so far she has 5 grandkids apparently I am supposed to provide the other 3 kids. Arrrrugggg! Anyway I can easily pick ever issued quarter out of my change but I can only pick out D minted coins. Being from ND there is very little tourism to bring the P's within my grasp so I have had to buy them from my local coin shop or E-bay. I can only assume this is the normal so if you are putting together a whole set you may have to resort to one of these methods. Although these options work, it is generally easier and more benifical to find someone (like a relative) within the other part of the country to trade mints with you. I used to have my cousin swap with me but she was only puting together one set and lost intrest in sending me 8 quarters 5 times a year.
I hate to admit it, but i just responded to a Littleton Coin ad for the first few years worth of quarters (one from each state - not both mm's). They were 50 cents each, which is not bad for unc singles.
Funny, I can only find "P" s in my change! I'd like to get a few more "D" s! (I live in NY, so I guess if I really wanted "D"s I could look for them easily. )
My problem is finding the "P" s. The only "D" I had trouble with was Alabama, but I finally found one.
