With no boxes, I went on a road trip. Visited about 15 banks in smaller towns. Only found about 29 dollars in halves total.

    1 64

    That's it......

    Better luck next week....

I welcome the few Canadian nickels I find. In fact, I have started a book for them too...Now that's a challenge here in Illinois.

I'm not usually one to get too excited about Monday, but I am anxious to see what's in that other $300. I just hope the teller was right and they're majority silver like the other two rolls:secret:

I checked 50 rolls of pennies today. Nothing extremely exciting there.

    3 Wheats
    40, 52d, 55

    1 x 50 Swedish Ore
    1 x 1 Zambian Ngwee

I'll bet I'm the only one here who has found a Zambian Ngwee - whatever that is!

    acodym,

I generall search halves when I can find them, pennies and nickels. I seldom find anything interesting in dimes and quarters.

For instance, I searched a box of quarters this weekend and found only
6 Bicentennials (high mintage, only scarce because so many have already hoarded them), 1 two-headed magician coin, and a 100 won coin (or some such thing - some kind of oriental coin anyway). If you like the state quarters, you can do that. It's almost impossible to find much silver in quarters or dimes, because they circulate so much more than halves.

In pennies, at least I find wheats in every box. In the nickels, I occasionally find silver war nickels, and have found two buffalo nickels with dates. I'm working with my oldest daughter on a Jefferson collection which we lack about 20 coin from completing. I think the 38-9 D & S coins are difficult, as well as the 50d, but it is said that this is the one set you can complete from circulation. We'll see, I guess.

A lot of people work pennies and nickels because of the volume of coins you can go through with less cash outlay.

I think the real answer is that you ought to search whichever coins you think are "cool." It excites me to find silver halves, Walkers, and Franklins. I also like finding wheats and the occasional buffalo. If there were still any Standing Liberty Quarters out there, I'd probably hunt for them. The odds are just so long, and I go through so many without even seeing a '64 Washington Quarter, I just lose interest.

My kids also like the pennies and nickels - so that's a big part of it, too. Good luck, and have fun. Try a few different denominations and see what you like the best.

You need to remember that Acodym is up in Canada, so what holds true here might not be true there. Give quarters and dimes a try, although I don't know what years those where made out of silver, you might have better luck then down here in the states with those.

Guess the law of averages caught up with me this weekend. 2 boxes of halves and nothing. Just a few BU examples of common years, but nothing interesting. Bound to happen sooner or later.

I would think the canadian Quarters would be good since they didn't do a 50 coin series in 10 years. They did make a 2000 milliniun set of 12 that is pretty cool but still without mint marks and the other 38 iot would be a whole lot less indivbidual pieces than we have. I also thought they didn't quit making silver quarters until '68, not sure though. I believe dimes were also up to '68 so they too would be worth a look besides it is only time you never lose your original investment of face value.

    $25 box of cents

    From a box of cents
    I got:8-LP1
    3-LP2
    5-Canadiens '32,63,84,94, and 95
    9 wheaties '37,40,40s,45,47,49d,52d,53d and a 57
and 1 United Arab Emirates 10 fil piece, which I thought was pretty cool. Not the greatest of boxes but I guess with everyone roll searching its getting harder to find great boxes.

    No Comstock Lode...

Well, you may recall that on Saturday, I had a teller give me two rolls of halves with about 25 silver coins in them. She told me there was another $300 in the vault, but that I'd have to come back Monday to get them. Well, they were apparently not all from the same source as I had been led to believe. Not a total bust though...

    Out of 31 rolls:

    5 x 40%

A little disappointing, though, seeing that in the other two rolls I got 2 64s and 23 x 40%.

    But better than nuthin'

Well back to the MA Thesis.

How much is in a box of dimes?? or do they usally come in bags? If so how many are in the bags?

    Dimes

A box is $250. A box of anything is 50 rolls. On the bags, they are more.

One nice thing about dime boxes - at least if they come from most of the major security companies - is that they come in plastc rolls. You can see the sides and notice if there are any that aren't clads before you even break the roll.

Hey Erin, what happened to the Aggies last weekend? SHEESH!

The last 5 boxes of halves only yielded 8 %40 and 1 64 which all came from the last box. 1 more box today, hopefully better luck!
