Can anyone advise how to evaluate older gold commemorative (not legal currency) coins? I have 2 from the 1792 Munich Olympics that are about 20mm in diameter, one stamped .333 (8 karat) and 1 stamped .585 (14 karat). Is there a collectors market for them or is it just gold value?
The olympics were not revived until late in the 19th century, so your 1792 olympic coins are fantasy pieces.
There is probably a collector market for them, but not as coins because they are not coins. They are medals.
