Why did this not get any bids? http://cgi.ebay.com/1889-P-Morgan-S...ividual?hash=item1e58bd3bbbQQautorefreshZtrue It is not mine and I am not buying, but why not even an opener?
well the coin looks artifically toned. so there isnt going to be a premium for that. there are tons of those coins to be had. so saying that the price isnt great. not even worth bidding on. IMO
Definitely AT. And did you seehis other auctions , they're all hideous. 1883 O Morgan Silver Dollar Neon Rainbow Toned AU+ - eBay (item 130337962675 end time Oct-18-09 06:35:15 PDT)
Thanks for the input. As I mentioned I am not buying right now, but it looks to me like very few people are right now, especially if you look at all the morgans going through now. No bids on a lot of it and very low on a lot also. Maybe buyers are getting smarter or money just getting tighter. Who knows?
Obviously AT is correct. Always beware of common date/grade material that has little numismatic value with rainbow toning. These coins are prime targets for coin doctors. Remember, artificial toning will severely hurt the numismatic value of a rare coin. With coins that have very little numismatic value over the intrinsic value, there is very little risk for the coin doctor. The coin doctor would be much less inclined to attempt to tone a gem state Morgan which has significant numismatic value.
I see that not one of his listings has a bid. People are getting more educated??? Raider is right, the all look the same and very gaudy...not good.
Most of the Morgans and Peace dollars on e-bay are way overpriced. With silver approaching 18 dollars an ounce people are going crazy. People paying $25 for a common date Morgans that aren't even AU are nuts. Guess they're hoping the Hunt brothers will corner the silver market again and push it up to $50 an ounce. I can still by some of the stuff being sold for 15$ from my local dealer in his junk bin.
I'm surprised this seller hasn't been discussed here before. He sells a lot of obviously AT coins. From what I've seen his favorite is the Franklin Half and believe me he's sold a ton of them.
Having never baked a coin before does it kill the luster flat like that? Just curious cause this coin reminds me of some over-dipped coins.
