Lincoln Chronicles breaking the $200 barrier?

Been looking around on ebay and there are several pre-sellers who are charginf $200 and over for there pre-ordered sets.........Does anybody think this will last?

Whats the long term value here. The coin itself is worth maybe $55-$60, and the pennies have a $5 resale value $10 on a good day. So maybe a total of $70-$75 on a good day for both. Is this yet another example of everyone going buck-wild for the paper around the coin and not the coin itself, because by my math this make over a $100 worth of paper here.

So again, whats the long term value here? Likely to fall over time? And on a side note, I know I said the Braille wasn't going anywhere, but the 25,000 production of the set seems like decent long term option. But then again 50,000 for Chronicles is to if you are going solo on the mintage.

    Any comments?

i think its an attractive set of coins that canbe obtained easily and cheaply elsewhere. if folks want to pay an extra $150 for the packing thats their choice. With alot of the hooplah that folows other Mint items, give it time, the prices will fall fast and hard! IMHO the inflated prices is not sustainable!

I agree with The Daggar. I looked on ebay and it seems that all 50,000 sets are currently up for bid with pricing that goes from ridiculously high to ludicrously high. You are basically paying a sherpa to haul the goods for you by getting a hold of the coins through the mint and then charging you for the trouble. Once the premium of getting a coin through the mint dies down then the prices will as well.

How can they sell for $200 when the set is still available on the mint website?

    To answer your question,

The people who get the orders in first, are likely to have their goods ship to them faster.
After the first batch of orders, the mint stops, and puts everything on backorder, and then you are given a later date.

    Stupidcoinguy,

I personally think that these will be pretty high up there for a couple years. People will remember this year in numismatics, and everybody wants one of these sets and Lincoln commemoratives! And I mean EVERYBODY! It is a hot ticket item! It will go over $200 for sure, slowly decrease, and stay steady in the $100's.
Just depends on the coin market though, in a few years these things could be going for $500! They could be going for $60. It is all speculation.

Heck! Everyone and their brother, sister, cousin, second cousin, aunt, uncle, and uncle's, second cousin's, cousin's, sister's, brother will be trying to get them! These are the hot ticket item of the year. Very exciting to have an order, and I'm excited to see how high the prices will go. :)

It's hard to say with any certainty. Lincoln has always been a popular political figure and I'm sure there will always be interest in this set. The numismatic world hasn't had any cents to get excited about since his 100th anniversary in 1909. It's been one hundred years!

So it will be interesting to see how it plays out. Although nobody should pretend that these 95% copper cents will be as rare as S-VDBs.

There will also be a total of 500,000 of the silver dollars floating around out there after this is all said and done. Not a low mintage for commemoratives. I'll have two of them and they won't be for sale. It all depends on what everybody else is doing.

If they sold out quickly for the primary reason everybody's looking to flood the market and flip them for a quick buck, then the prices might end up being less than the mint issue price eventually. Depends on if the collectors out number the flippers and exactly how much dealers will stash away off the market and save.
Which is not likely because nowadays it's about the quick flip to idiots before the bottom falls out. So be prepared for anything.

I love to speculate and guess, and play what-ifs. I wish more people would play those games with me. Most of the time I get these snippy, :loud:"You can't do that" type of response when I ask people to speculate on coins.

Though if anybody can point me to the forum that does, I would sorry to say, be glad to leave this one.

Oh now say it ain't say, Joe!! :crying: wah wah :D

Actually I like to speculate myself and I agree some ppl on this forum do rush in and say "hey you can't do that" and rah rah rah but that's a part of all forums. This is the best forum I've found and you can see me step in dog piles of verbal abuse almost daily. :D

Now back to speculating, heck I didn't know the mint sold out. I wonder how many sellers on ebay don't know, that's funny. My feel is that this LN6 set is going to stay high and I'll tell you why. There was only 50.000 sets issued. There are way more than 50,000 Lincoln collectors out there who missed this sale. That means the price will stay high!! :secret: At least for the packaged sets.

Oh and this creative idea some ppl are getting to take the Lincoln dollar sold 8 months ago and add some pennies to it and sell it like an unpackaged LN6, we'll see how well that goes.

I really don't mind speculating at all. I can see this set going for $250+ in the next 2-3 months but what do I know, I am just a coin collector. One thing is for certain, it will be fun to watch the prices on ebay until the end of the year.

Well I am suppose to have 2 sets coming. One I will open and maybe keep the other taped in the original sealed mint packaging for possible slabbing if this occurs. Any word from the TPG's about these sets?

While I really do not intend to sell my sets, it is nice to see them go up in value. I believe these will hold a modest premium in the long haul but who knows. Honest Abe has been mighty popular for a bunch of years.

I couldn't agree more. I don't know why anybody would buy this set and submit them for grading. The actual significance of the set is the packaging and paperwork itself.
If you want to take chances sending these in for grading, you can buy all the proof LP sets you want for 7.95 and all the dollars you want for $50 or less. What hasn't been slabbed already. It wouldnt be too bright to pay the premium for a set on Ebay and send it in for grading. But I'm sure somebody will do it and the price of the packaging will be just as insane.

If people are smart, there won't be much if any of the packaging for sale. If this was the only issue of these coins, ok. I could understand sending them in to NGC. Then you would know they came from the Chronicles issue.
But as it stands, you take the silver dollar out of the packaging now, you pretty much throw it in the mix with the other 450,000 and no more premium unless you get a PF70.

I could see people sending them in and if they don't get a 70, they'll be cracked out and put back in the mint packaging. If they do get the 70, they'll replace it with another and re-sell the whole thing themselves. Surely many dealers will want to make that profit both ways if they can. They'll have extra silver dollars laying around anyway.

I myself just plan on enjoying the set and stashing it. Nor worrying about all this B.S. The masses can fight over the 49,999 that are left and do what they want with them. :D

I've been waiting for this day for nearly the whole year. I probably should have found more relatives to buy this one but only got 2 myself. I'm curious about the statement that everyone and their brother wants this set. Wouldn't everyone already include your brothers, sisters, cousins, etc.? By the way, I finally completed counting to infinity last night. It only took me 15 years this time.
